Would this seem odd?

I had my 7th grade english teacher do a letter of recommendation for me, however halfway through 7th grade she was promoted to a counselor who follows me all the way through high school, so she knows me more than any teacher. She also finds most interest in me because of certain circumstances I’m in within my region. That put, is it odd to do such a thing?

Is this unusual? I would assume so.
Is this bad? Not necessarily.

Perfect answer, thanks.

I would say no, but there is the fact that Yale asks for teachers who know you from academic subjects from Junior or Senior year. If it is supplemental, go for it, if not, be very careful.

^ I got one from a sophomore year teacher. Of course, 7th grade is a huge difference from sophomore year, but regardless, those guidelines are clearly not set in stone.

was this an “academic” or “supplemental”? If she eventually became your counselor, did you have her fill out the counselor rec? It makes a difference depending on which one it was…

erm if she’s your counselor ask her to put in her experiences with you as a student into her recco, which would in itself be really good for ye as most counselors don’t have that kind of personal classroom exposure to students,

however if ye ask her for 2 recs; one counselor and one subject… thats kinda… redundant? especially if it was 7th grade… colleges really aren’t going to place that much emphasis on a recco that touches on how ye were a student 5 years ago :/
