Would UIUC be a safety?

ACT: 33 (35M, 34 E, 30R, 33S)
SAT: 2100
SAT IIs: Bio 730
US 650

-Illinois State Finals in Swimming
-Varsity Swimming 4 years (Captain)
-11 Years Club Swimming (Captain)–a lot of qualifying times, records, and awards
-President of Beta Club (member 9-12)
-President of Spanish Club (member 9-12, secretary 11)
-NHS (11,12)
-Volunteer Swim Coach
-Lifeguard
-Swim Instructor
-4 swim camps at various universities
-Medical Internship (fairly competitive to be accepted)
-Hospital Volunteer (100 hrs), probably another 200 hrs in other volunteer activities (havent actually counted)

I actually have more ECs, swimming is my main activity, I have a list of awards/designations, i also have some other work experience and club offices, but i don’t really want to list them right now

But just considering the main list/stats i have given, would you say that University of Illinois-Champaign-Urbana is a safety for me, I have two family members that went there for undergrad, and one for grad, and I’m an Illinois Resident

Plan on majoring in Bichemistry…but i am thinking of Engineering (I know its a lot more competitive)

Any other random safeties i can consider?

oh yeah, gpa 4.0/4.0 unweighted…5.8333/6.0 weighted
Rank: 2/500
Unknown Public School

you look good

ok…

can i consider Case Western a Safety?

UIUC is definitely a safety; just make sure to apply as early as possible and you’ll be set. I’ve heard odd stories of in-state students with solid stats not getting into UIUC because they waited too long to apply.

so does UIUC favor in-state students like the UCs

Yeah, UIUC like all other public state schools has to admit a certain number of in-state students, which means that it’s relatively easier for in-state students to get in.

They also have to distribute their admits around the state. If you are from a competitive Chicago region suburb you know it is harder from your school than from a small school downstate. Nonetheless it shouldn’t be a problem unless you wait too long. Also make sure you send in your housing choice and deposit right away, even if you don’t plan on attending. If your plans should change and you end up there you might find your bed in a lounge.

alright, I’ll be sure to apply early

my sister was telling me about the different housing, she applied six years ago (graduated not so long ago)
I knew that competition for admissions at the school has increased a lot since then, just wanted to make sure UIUC would be one of my safeties

Actually, UIUC weighs in-state and out-of-state residents about the same for admission. However, it is very close to a safety for you even if you apply for engineering as long as you apply and get your transcript and test scores in early (before November 15; its “priority” date – those who get everything in by that date have, according to what UIUC itself says, an advantage over those who apply afterwards). Note, SAT II’s mean nothing to UIUC as it does not consider them for admission. Neither does it consider legacy (it can’t because far too many of the applicants can claim it). Also, its most important factors are class rank and test score (ACT or SAT); the importance of essays and EC’s ranges from little to no importance for those with high stats to potentially the deciding points for those with low. Its admission rate last year university-wide was about 68% and the College of Engineering was close to that.

thanks, can you apply to both the LAC and Engineering college?

No, you have to pick a major/college on the app except that you can apply undecided, which is automatically deemed an application to LAS.

can anyone just give me a few match/safety schools i can look at?
Preferably more than 2000 students, no specific location preference, and somewhere with a pre-med or biochemistry program that is better than UIUC?
