Would you approve my SAP appeal?

So the background:

I came in as a transfer student, and I screwed up majorly my first semester. I received 3 Fs, a C+, and an A. I was really depressed, and I was struggling with anxiety due to be bill collected for an accident with no insurance. I failed almost all my classes. I took 13 credits and have a 0.845 GPA.

What happened:

In the fall of 2015 I was involved in a car accident where I did not have insurance. This led to me being sued in the Fall of 2016.  I was recieving many calls on the daily telling me I had to pay.  I was trying to work out a payment, but I was not working very much due to school.  This situation was causing me a lot of stress and anxiety, and I was not putting my full focus into my courses. I missed an essential midterm in 1 course which caused an automatic failure. I returned to UW-Waukesha for the Spring 2017 semester in hopes of improving my GPA enough to come back to UW-Whitewater.  I received a 2.3 semester GPA.  I have now been informed that my UW-Waukesha GPA is not taken into account, so I am not meeting academic progress with my UWW GPA of a 0.845.

What I will change:

Since the fall 2017 semester, I have filed for bankruptcy and have stopped receiving harassing calls from bill collectors.  I have also been working with a counselor on techniques to stay organized and manage my anxiety so I do not get overwhelmed and shut down when presented with stressful situations such as the lawsuit from fall 2017.  I will continue to work with her through the spring semester. have also seen a doctor and have been prescribed anti-anxiety medication and medication for ADHD.  I will also check in with my professors and advisor frequently throughout the semester to make sure I am on track for success. As seen through my progress in the Spring 2017 semester at UW-Waukesha, I feel these combined efforts are positively effecting my ability to succeed academically.

I am planning on attaching a copy of the debt letters I received, a copy of my bankruptcy papers, a letter of reccomendation from my counselor, and at least one letter of recommendation from my professor of a course I took while on academic dismissal for a semester.

Do you think this is strong enough for me to get approved? I attend UW-Whitewater.

I cannot tell you whether your school will approve this for you; no one can. However, I will say that you are providing all the info you can … what happened, what has changed that will allow you to be successful, and documentation. The only other thing I would suggest is to work with an academic advisor to come up with an academic plan & submit that, as well. From there, all you can do is hope it works out. Best to you!

I’d add that, other than bankruptcy, which could worry them, the one action so far is the counseling. So, like many students, you’re left with just promises. Agree, meeting with the sdvisor can show an active step to better manage, going forward. It’s better to be able to show, I’ve done xyz, than just that you will.

Okay, so maybe I will switch bankruptcy to have come to a resolution regarding the situation. And I will change will meet with an advisor, to have met with my advisor to discuss what steps I must take to be successful in the future and will continue to meet with my advisor to check in on my progress.

But really do meet with the advisor. Don’t just say it, if it isn’t so. And kelsmom said, come up with a plan you can submit in some form. We’re talking about ways you reassure them you are truly moving into a turnaround.

In the what I will change paragraphs, you reference the Fall 2017 semester and the Fall 2017 lawsuit. I think you mean Fall 2016 if I understand the timeline correctly. Good luck.
