Our refurbished Vitamix is going strong after years of use. Never had an issue.
@Southmom Did you buy it from Vitamix directly?
We bought a refurbished TV and several smaller items for home use; they were fine.
We routinely buy refurbished (and buy “lab junk” and have it refurbished!) scientific instruments for work.
I would be concerned with anything that needs a battery to operate purchased from a seller that is not an authorized dealer or manufacturer. The battery’s life may be shortened by prior use.
I bought DS a refurb iPhone 5s through T Mobile. It looked and performed as new. We have had it a year and it works great.
@raclut - We bought it from Amazon. My niece (who is married to a personal trainer who lives off shakes made in their Vitamix) bought a refurbished Vitamix from Amazon five years ago and LOVES it - still going strong after long-term daily use. Based on her experience (and what I read on-line), I bought my Vitamix (off of the Amazon website) and it has been totally hassle-free. No issues whatsoever.
I bought a Nook refurbished back when Nooks were newer. Bought S a Playstation refurbished from Groupon with no trouble and it still had a year warranty. Sort of like buying a car with low miles that still has the warranty intact.
Nope. Burned once.
I just checked refurbished Mac pricing, it is 200 less than a new one - $1300 vs $1500. I don’t see a great incentive in buying a refurbished one.
I suspect that in most cases you can’t tell the difference between new and refurbished. However, I still harbor some kind of ingrained prejudice, or perhaps an emotional need to buy something “new”, so I only buy furbished.
I’ve been buying refurbished electronics for years. My H and S2 are particularly hard on phones, and I’d rather they had easily replaceable iPhone 5c refurbs than 6s Pluses that they’d probably trash within a month.
I have bought refurbished Kindles, Ipods and other electronics. All look new when I receive them, are covered by same warranty as new, but sometimes come in plain box vs a off the shelf bought in a big box store. If I can get a good deal on a refurb I buy it.
I have brought a lot of tools, small appliances and electronics that were refurbished be an authorized dealer or the original company. Never have had a problem. Often the warranty is the same an new. Some of the tools had a two year warranty. Usually there is no sign of wear. Even the lawn tools I purchased were pristine.
Normally, we just go with brand new. H doesn’t really trust refurb and he is our “house geek” and repair person. Often the savings aren’t that great and we are cutting back on purchases these days anyway.
@raclut what are you thinking of buying refurbished?
@thumper1 Well, I don’t own any Apple products and felt full price was very expensive.
I saw an Apple Ipad Air 64gb for $385. I think with coupon codes I could get another 10 to 15% off. They (dailysale) post the regular price as $699 and I thought it would be nice for dd. Just window shopping right now. Final price would be $346.50.
We have purchased our Apple laptops and desktop, refurbished, from Apple.com No regrets.
Refurbished can save you money, I have found it depends on the product, who makes it and its price range. Apple stuff is great where it is refurbished by the factory, for example, I have had a lot of luck with that. On the other hand, I have bought refurbished stuff from Woot (I don’t know who does it), and it ended up getting sent back. I also found that with tools, tools refurbished by the better quality makers tended to be great, but for example Black and Decker refurbished generally didn’t last long.
I have never bought refurbished and was hesitant to try. Everyone’s input has been really helpful.
@raclut is that iPad Air this generation or an older one? If an older one…that might not be such a good deal.
@thumper1 I think I need to do some research and if I consider buying refurbished to buy directly from Apple. I am hesitant to make any big purchases right now.
