<p>I would choose a person with enough self confidence to do what he/she really wants to do and not deciding based on how it appears to others.</p>
<p>I guess this “hypothetical” person would not be chosen at all by me, whatever endeavor they chose.</p>

<p>SwimmerP … I’m with T26E4. This title means nothing if you didn’t complete something significant as class president by the time you submit your application. Don’t be a poser.</p>
<p>There is much, much more to think about when deciding to go to NCSSM than a class presidency. It’s very likely that your standout student will be an average or even below-average student at Science and Math. This wouldn’t necessarily be terrible, as many of their students still end up at excellent schools–and, from what I’ve seen, with much better study skills than their peers. But as far as college admissions to the very top schools goes, NCSSM is likely to hurt more than it helps, unless your student is one of the top students there.</p>

<p>I would stay put and go for class president. If you are in a situation where you are thriving academically and will get the leadership experience of being class president, then that (coupled of course with really good SAT scores) will give you a solid chance for a great college. Why move?</p>
<p>On the other hand, if you desire the experience of boarding, the challenge of a truly competitive pond or simply are not happy at all at your current school…well then go for NCSSM.</p>

<p>How good is the high school currently being attended? Are there good academic opportunities there in addition to class president? We live in Wake County, so are pretty familar with the schools…</p>

<p>I don’t care what titles you have if you haven’t done anything, nor do I care what high school you went to when I don’t know anything about it. Nobody cares how well-known or prestigious your high school is if you haven’t made the best of it, and that doesn’t mean holding an arbitrary title. Unless you can show you’ve done something with a leadership position, it’s pretty much useless.</p>
<p>Also, it’s “Ivy,” not “IVY.”</p>
<p>Make sure you got an offer from NCSSM first, why waist your energy just daydreaming? ;)</p>
