Would you fail a exam for the purposes of understanding the material?

However ironic it sounds, it is quite possible.

After all, it’s hard to tell when you’re really “ready” to learn the material at a visceral level. It comes when it comes - you know it when you see it. Yet it sometimes comes at the most inopportune moments - just before a test. By trying to learn the material viscerally - you end up doing things like justifying results in the book - rather than actually studying for the test. Yes you can study for the test and justify results later. But it’s possible that there may be no better moment to cave into the opportunity of viscerally learning the material - for it does depend on how you’re feeling at the time.

(or you might just be really frustrated at the way you’ve been pursuing your studying for the exam and impatient for change)

So would you do it?

but actually the truth is that both are rarely mutually exclusive with each other. so i’m making myself look stupid here. oh well. i have to make myself look stupid if i have those thoughts one way or another

I haven’t really studied anything in school that is that difficult to grasp.

I don’t really study for tests. I study the material, try to understand it, and then the tests are usually no problem.

So basically what I’m saying is studying for tests and studying to understand the material are really the same thing. At least in my experience. Because I don’t study if it won’t help me understand the material. And once I understand the material I don’t really need to study it anymore unless I forget it.

That probably made no sense at all, did it.
