Would you judge me because of my lack of decorative hand soap dispensers?

Years ago, my son asked where I got the soap dispenser I used for the Dawn in the kitchen as he wanted one for his house; this was about a year after he got married. I worried he would judge me, as it was one I purchased when we were in a rental, waiting for our townhome to be completed. It was from Target, plastic and cheap. Four years later and we are still using it; I think Target has gone up in price as I am pretty sure I pay under $3.00 and it is now $6.00!

A month ago, my daughter text to our family group to ask where I got the soap dispenser. My son’s answered within moments, with a link to Target. When I went to visit my daughter last month, there sat the dispenser at her kitchen sink! Either I taught my children the value of a dollar, or how to be cheap and not care

I have hand soap pumps by both kitchen sink and bathroom, and they aren’t especially decorative. Personally, I prefer bar soap, but I hear that marks me as old. Bar soap tends to collect in the house, as it is often a gift. Despite plenty of Covid washing I still have used maybe three bars of hand soap in the past year. The liquid soap I buy in a large bag and then refill the containers. My old sink had the well for hand or dish soap and I ended up not being a fan.

Love it.

Most of ours are from Target also. They’re plastic with a white top and translucent base, made in Taiwan (not PRC) and have held up very well. One bathroom has the silver/gray version. They’ll go with us to the next house.

@great_lakes_mom is being hip and “green” with bar soap.

I prefer liquid handsoap but will strive to more bar soap when/if our covid supplies (BIG jug) depleted.

And you missed the perfect opportunity to give them something they really wanted for their birthdays!

We are fine with using the little dispensers the liquid soap came in and then refilling it as needed. We also have bar soap, which use use to shower with. We try to use the dispenser that physically fits best in the spot where it is to be placed. If anyone is judging us, so be it. We don’t have many visitors— with covid, even fewer.

I wouldn’t judge anyone for that, but if you had a dispenser like @momofboiler1’s, I would notice and admire.

I like @ChoatieMom 's decorating style. I wonder what she uses?

For the past six years, since we moved into this house, I have continued to re-fill this container that once held a lemon-scented dish detergent with Dawn. So, nothing fancy here, and no judgement about what works for others. Have to say, I haven’t give much thought to this one.

Not only are they refillable but if you go for Walmart generic hand soap the labels will cleanly peel off, no logo embossed in the pump and you can decorate them yourself!

No. I wouldn’t judge you.

But a few years ago I bought a simple clear glass soap dispenser to refill with unscented, clear hand soap from a bit bag of method. And I am surprised by how much I prefer it. It was primarily about reducing plastic waste but I enjoy it now.

Never would I ever.

This thread has been kind of a guilty pleasure for me. Not long ago, I was talking with some friends about items we no longer can find in the stores. I told them I hadn’t been able to find true tea rose bathroom towels and rugs, and they looked at me and asked why I would want them. I told them my gray-tiled bathroom has pink accessories, which they found hard to believe, so I felt dissed. Pretty soon I’ll invite them to my new condo (they hadn’t been there before) and I think they’ll like the bathroom–especially since this thread inspired me to find a pink liquid soap dispenser. (and to replace my Dawn bottle with a pump)!

We have Dawn and Softsoap in original containers in the kitchen, Softsoap containers in bathroom sinks (I refill Softsoap), hotel bar soap in the shower for H, liquid body wash for me. I tend to use Dawn on my hands in the kitchen since there’s always something greasy that needs to be washed.

A couple weeks ago I splurged on this and I LOVE IT

Got some fancy soap at Home Goods and filled it up with about a 5:1 ratio of water: soap. Before that, I just had an old foaming soap dispenser (I think it was dial) that I kept refilling. Eventually it got too sticky.

Fancy!

I bought a fancy one too (not as fancy as yours however) and had to replace it twice (company replaced it for free) but decided it was easier to get a $1.50 pump and refill until it dies then just get a new one.

I have a nice soap dispenser that I got in the gift/cooking supply store at a cooking school where my mom and I took a class once. This place also has a great restaurant too! Anywho, in the guest bathroom and H and I’s bathroom we just use Bed, Bath and Beyond soap dispensers which are nice, but plain. I personally like decorative (though not over the top) soap dispensers, but I certainly wouldn’t judge or care if people don’t have them

I wouldn’t notice and wouldn’t care. I can see if someone recently remodeled their kitchen that they might find something like this important though. Whatever floats their boat.

I replaced the 20+ year old built-in kitchen soap dispenser when replacing the run of counter that housed the sink. The old dispenser functioned perfectly, but I thought I should replace it in the ‘While I am at it/make it match’ mode. The new one is a hassle and cannot handle undiluted soap, so I keep a bottle beneath the sink of half soap, half water and use it to refill the dispenser.

Every post here has mentioned Dawn. I have only used Palmolive and now wonder what I am missing!
