Would you let a film crew in your house to film?

I would not want a murder scene filmed in my house either!

It probably wouldn’t be your couch. When my neighbor was asked to allow filming of a commercial in her house she assumed it was because it was so nicely furnished and decorated. But in the event they moved every bit of her furniture, including rugs and window treatments, into a truck outside and moved in all new furniture and decor.

For my sister’s detective show, it was supposedly the home of a wealthy divorcee whose dog died and she suspected it was murder of her dog (spoiler it actually was attempted murder of her). Nothing bad happened in the home, the detectives were just interviewing her. I believe they used all my sister’s furnishings and showed the lovely pool in the backyard.

While I might get a kick out of it, my husband would never NEVER allow it. Strangers traipsing through our sanctuary, breaking things, trampling his beautiful landscaping, touching our personal belongings? He would be overcome by anxiety. Years ago, we bought a house in his college town for our daughter to live in while she attended college there. We fixed it up so nice that we were asked to put it in a Christmas home tour, proceeds going to a local charity. He grudgingly allowed it. On the day, I had to send him away because he was so riddled with outrage and anxiety about people walking through and touching our Christmas decorations and a faux fur throw on our daughter’s bed. He kept asking me why I’d agreed to it.

Never again, he said. So I’d believe that this would be a big NO from him on an extended period of time of people taking over our house.

My law office was used to film a TV show. They repainted it in garish colors and although they repainted it after filming was over, the repainting job was sloppy. They didn’t care, they were outta there. I don’t know how much the firm was paid.

In our HOA, filming is not permitted. Too disruptive.

I was afraid of that. Some people think painting is just slapping some paint on the wall. There’s more to it. I pay a lot to get the paint job done right. If they are taking things down in one day, there’s no way they’ll do a proper job restoring the paint. It seems what they offer is way too low anyway.

My D made a short film and said they had to pay a huge damage deposit as they did a lot to make the apartment they filmed in look old and run down. It looked ancient!

We have never had anyone scout our area for filming and we wouldn’t be interested in anyone in our home.

A neighbor’s house was used for filming some of 13 Reasons Why. She said it was a hassle, but got over it because reimbursement paid for two semesters of her kids expensive college. It was a bit of annoyance for neighborhood, as they filmed at night
the lights were quite powerful
and the generators quite noisy. But it was less than a week. I’d happily do it!

Probably not
I might bore them to death. They might cancel from a lack of ratings :joy:

I would not be keen on doing something that was inconvenient to neighbors. I’d definitely want to compensate them somehow.

Fun sidebar: On a bus tour of the Cotswold scenic region near London, there was a story about how George Clooney did big renovations / pool installation causing great grief to the neighbors. At end, he invited them to a pool party. AND gave them each $25k check for their troubles

I hope they told you whether or not he attended the party; I suspect that would just be too good to be true.

The renovation disruption part of the story is definitely true.

The neighbor compensation tidbit may very well be Pub Fiction.

I have no clue, obviously, but Dr. Google provides multiple sources that say they compensated them even more than 25K each.

When I was a child there was a movie filmed in the house across the street; I was maybe 5-6 years old, and I set up a little table and sold small cups of lemonade for 15 cents a cup.

I made somewhere around $22 (which was an absolute fortune) and Patty Duke gave me a tall chocolate cake that had been a prop that day.
