Would you pay to get out a proposed draft?

During the civil war, you could pay $300 to get someone to take your place if you were drafted. If a draft were to happen today, would you (if they still had it) pay today’s equivalent of $300 (almost $6,000) to get out of the draft?

No .

er I’d sue.

absolutely

Yes.
Though I haven’t a clue why the government would be stupid enough to draft me.

No, I don’t think so. I didn’t think that was fair when I read it. It was a rich man’s war but a poor man’s fight.

You mean to say, olivia567, if you had the means and were faced with that choice, you would personally – for yourself – go to war? I understand that you probably wouldn’t have passed a law allowing for people to buy out their obligation to serve, but if that law was on the books and you could avail yourself of it, you’re saying that you wouldn’t do so?

I believe there are people who are so principled…and that’s admirable. For those of you who take such a principled stand, now try this: if your child was drafted and this law was on the books…would you continue to be so principled with his life?

I think I’d go to war, because I think it’s a bit unfair to weasel out of fighting for a cause you believe in.

I wouldn’t do that to my child, no, definitely not. I think I’d like to have control over what I would do in that situation, but I wouldn’t want to have to deal with any guilt over making someone else do that. And especially not to a loved one… I’d make them stay. :)

If I supported the war then I would pick up my ass up and fight for what I found justifiable. However if some monkey’s ass like our current president proposed a federal mandate making it mandatory that all men, regardless of whether they supported the war or NOT had to sign up then I would find that as an unethical measure and purely a violation of American Freedom and our personal right to make our own decisions! If Bush had sons he’d know, from what I see he can give a S*** less to little johnny getting his flesh ripped off by an attacker and returning home to find out that he is denied quality medical care. Honestly those who supported this disaster should be the ones personally financing this disaster as well as forking up the money for the trillion dollars of debt the America has concured because of this INVASION!

I really don’t comprehend what the hell Bush thinks of himself. He’s a failure to American History and forever will be, unlike the Regean mantra he idolizes that he is or ever will be.

Yes.
Though I haven’t a clue why the government would be stupid enough to draft me.

haha. exactly my thoughts on the matter. I’m so uncoordinated that I’d probably mess something important up completely. plus, I’ve always maintained that I would never be involved in the military – I’d be court-marshaled my first week in, because I don’t believe in doing anything that I personally don’t agree with.

I’d bail myself out…and I’d bail my kids out too, EVEN if I didn’t have the means to do so. Although with my Wall Street career I find it difficult to believe that I wouldn’t have $6k per person to bail them out…

But yeah I’d probably get kicked out within an hour…because when someone yells at me, I’d get up in their face and say “Excuse me, I don’t even let my MOTHER yell at me. Who the **** are you to yell at me? What the **** gives you the right to yell at me? Don’t you EVER yell at me again, you scumbag.”

And I don’t care if the PRESIDENT yells at me, I’d say the same exact thing.

And then they’d get *****slapped.

no if it means someone else will be taking my place.

some wars I would have gladly fought in, i.e. WWII. (maybe I’m using the word gladly too loosely, but u know what I mean. It was a just cause.)

Heck yes. Wars are stupid.

i’ll go not for politics, but for the person next to you. i think that was from black hawk down.

If I’m fighting for a worthy cause I’d readily march into battle.

Else- Pay all the way.
