Would you rather be George Eliot or J.K. Rowling?

RC?? What’s that stand for?

Reading comprehension, I believe.

Well, I’d be George Eliot. I’ve read the Harry Potter series… ick. No depth, no heart…

Actually, if I had my druthers, I’d be Tolkein. But swimcatsmom, that was a great line: rich but not dead. Wish I’d thought (and said) that one.

I don’t know where you get the idea that HP has no depth or heart. How can you NOT become emotionally involved with the characters? Just because it’s fantasy doesn’t mean there’s not symbolism, characterization, depth, etc.

You want real fantasy? I loved Xena: Warrior Princess. Now that stuff kills any HP movie in my opinion. You got hot Amazonian women fighting it out, and to top that off, there’s mythology everywhere with very interesting plots and morals. HP is fun but not deep.

Oh, and if Xena and Harry Potter got in a fight, before he could use his wizard wand, Xena would say “What’s that light behind you?!” then yell her Warrior Princess scream and yank out her sword quickly and shove Harry Potter back into his cabinet.

That doesn’t prove anything.

People have different ways of thinking. JKR has no gift of narrative IMHO.

your “humble” opinion should be flushed down the drain!

j/k
but u cannot discredit an author just because u dont like them. I absolutely abhor Tolkien, but that does not prevent me from acknowledging him as a solid figure in the fairy-tale/Bildungsroman genre…

Um I agree w/ debate. She obviously has a narrative gift or her books would not sell so well!

Jk Rowling definitely…Who is George Eliot? LOL

georgieeee

george eliot for sure.

I’ve read all the harry potter books (and hold them dear due to childhood memories) and have enjoyed them but to consider them literary masterpieces (as some do) is ridiculous. Her imagination is obviously captivating but I’d have to disagree about the diction being “■■■■ amazing”. To me, compared to George Eliot - Rowling is not the superior writer.
