George Eliot is a titan of academic literature, and her masterpiece Middlemarch is one of the most intellectually vast works in the English language. Her books are also great bores that most people force themselves to read because of university classes.

J.K. Rowling is a beloved author whose characters and stories in the future will probably eclipse her own status as a writer. While literary snobs like Harold Bloom will sneer at her credentials and technique, she will continue to win the readership of children and adults for generations to come.

In short, would you rather appeal to the people’s mind, or their heart?

if i was J.K rowling…i’d have to kill myself. i couldn’t take the torture of waking up every day knowing that i am responsible for the massive distribution of stupidness ( a.k.a "harry potter books).

you’llsee…
since when was harry potter stupidness?
the last time i checked harry potter books entailed adventure, mystery, Erudition, etc. All the characteristics o gradual enlightment so I don’t get how you see it as stupidness

HeHe I don’t watch movies. Have been to cinema-hall only twice in life, to watch Jurassic Park(I) and second time for a bollywood movie(when I was 6 and 12). I could however agree that almost all of the popular movies are childish and stupid, just as almost all of the popular music or almost all of the popular books.

What part of Harry Potter do you find enriching, Authentic? I think it’s more productive to talk about those topics related to this thread than to denigrate other people’s favorite movies, which really aren’t relevant.

People who think Harry Potter is stupid are people who:

a) haven’t read the book or
b) are stupid

Hahaha…Well seriously, the Harry Potter books have deep story lines, symbolism, immense characterization, rich vocabulary, etc., etc., etc. What, do you think you’re too good to read Harry Potter???

JK…for those who sneer condescendingly at her work, have you ever tried analyzing her work? She is immensely powerful, and uses some of the most vehement diction I have ever seen…a girl did her extended essay on Harry Potter in IB, and she told me that after a discussion with her lit teacher, she felt immense respect for JK…

for those who say it’s childish, the line at Barron’s in Boston included all adults (who were CLEARLY single…) and only two kids…
