Would you travel to Europe in the near future?

No, we don’t plan to cancel. Our D plans to take a 10-day vacation in Western Europe and we haven’t encouraged her to cancel.

Sure! I’m going to Amsterdam day after tomorrow. Looking forward to taking the family to Berlin in June.

D1 was in Paris this week, and her boyfriend is there for a month on business. I admit I am checking the news, but she didn’t stay home.

We went to Paris at Christmas right after the bombings there. We are back to France in May and then I am in Dublin, the Hague and Amsterdam in July.
We grew up in DC and NYC, respectively. I think our families who are still there are at as high a risk as people in Europe and we still visit them. Just my opinion.

In a heartbeat.

I’d go. Just got back from Paris in March in fact.

S is attending school in London and is traveling around Europe right now (it’s his spring break). Safety issues do cross my mind, but nowhere is 100% safe.
H and I are talking about going to Italy, but we need to see how our schedules work out. We are definitely planning to go though.

Another who’s traveling to western Europe in June, including Paris. Can’t live in fear and, as others have said, no where is 100% safe. Happy travels to all!

So happy to see these replies! D is doing a May study abroad in Germany and Poland and both H and grandmom are concerned. I am usually a worrier but never thought to suggest to D that it might not be a good idea. Will continue to NOT say anything to her.

If you cancel the terrorists win.

D and her husband have been on their honeymoon bicycling in Paris and Spain for the last ten days with two more weeks to go. We’re not worried and they’re having a blast! They traveled via Heathrow, followed by a few days in Paris, and are in Spain in the Basque region, now, and will be back in Paris shortly. Why worry about evil when you’re taking in all that culture, food, music, art, and the wonders of mother nature?!!! <3

I know people who would not allow their child to go to college in NYC after 911. Well, that was unnecessary obviously.

Go to Europe! Take advantage of the exchange rate at this time!

I would go - currently in Asia and I actually wish it was European, not more Asia trips that I have scheduled.

I would and have started taking a slight precaution that is new for me. I register my travel plans with the State Dept. They send any alerts on current situations. First time I registered was last November when
I solo traveled to Cambodia. There was an alert, nothing that actually occured, but a political situation I would have been unaware of. With the alert, areas can be avoided - nice when there’s such a language barrier. I will be registering European travel in future as well. If anything happens, alerts with info could be useful.

I would also review the relevant languages for any European destinations. I’m not fluent, but can understand several European languages well enough to catch instructions. I learned this trick in the '80s when DH and I were in an uncomfortable situation without the language skills to know what was happening.

I just heard this on TV about southern Turkey. Maybe Turkey is not such a good place to go now.

Have a great trip, everyone. I’ll go to Europe as soon as I can afford it.

H and I went to Europe twice last Fall and we’re done for a little while. I admit to feeling chicken but I don’t have a trip planned and would really, really, like to avoid certain hideous airports and uncomfortable airplanes for a while longer.

southern Turkey borders Syria. In Syria, there is a war going on.

if you are going somewhere like Istanbul, you are probably ok (I am well aware there was just an ISIL bombing in Istanbul)

impressed to see so many people traveling to Europe!

D3 is going on a post-graduation trip with a friend to Ireland, Greece, Croatia and Prague. Originally wanted to go to Turkey and I am glad she dropped that idea. My biggest problem with her trip is my parents’ preaching to me about the foolishness (their perception) of her trip. They think I should just tell her not to go. Uhuh, she is 25 years old. Not happening.

Man, reading about all these trips to Europe, I’m jealous! I really want to go this summer. You are so lucky!
Go without fear, have a great time (but keep your eyes open).

Bus, don’t be jealous of mine. Mr. is flying to Sweden on business for a couple of days. I am tagging along - to make sure he does not oversleep his meetings and his flight back! Eek. Did both, so it is cheaper to bring me. Of course, we will made a side trip to visit kiddo!
