This is a bummer! The only reason we ended up vacationing in Iceland a few years ago was because we could get all of us there so inexpensively, and direct, on WOW. One of the best vacations we ever had and one of my favorite countries.
I feel terrible for all the stranded passengers.
wow…(no pun intended) my wife just took a flight on this airlines a month ago…but I suppose she wouldn’t have minded being stranded in Switzerland (her final destination).
Wow, when they claimed to be “no frills” they really meant it. You even have to use other airlines’ planes!
PS. Never liked those Vikings, anyway…
D used WOW for her spring break trip to Iceland, they just got back a week ago, phew
Every ad displayed in this thread is for Iceland Air! They must be having a field day. Get used to higher prices, folks.
Can’t believe they did it like this, selling tickets until just days before.
Thank you, gismo, for posting this information!!! Because of your alert on College Confidential, I quickly rebooked our summer flights on United and called my credit card company for a refund for tickets I purchased only last week with WOW. Icelandic Air uses Max 8 on this same route and I am reluctant to board one of those planes until the safety issues are sorted out. I hope everyone who is stranded gets a quick resolution.
Max 8 are still grounded.
An airline in financial problems will avoid hinting that it may shut down until it is inevitable, because merely saying that shutting down is a possibility will cause customers to flee and force it to have to shut down.
Colleges in financial problems face the same issue.
Before government insurance on non-huge bank deposits (FDIC, and NCUA for credit unions), banks faced the same issue – and even false rumors of a bank’s financial problems could cause a run on the bank that will force it to shut down.
I was thinking ahead to this summer when the Max 8 may no longer be grounded and I may not want to get on one.
