I just read that she has made racially charged comments in the past, and go look at the brooch she wore to the royal pre Christmas luncheon with the queen and about 50-60 other royals. I can’t believe I’m seeing what I’m seeing. If it is what they are saying, I hope Prince Harry gave it to her and I wouldn’t be surprised if Meghan does, also. What is wrong with people?
I just read her wikipedia page. She sounds like a nasty person.
I had to google that. Oh my, what was she thinking. I can’t imagine why she would ever be invited to a royal function again.
Linky linky linky?

Here’s one of many links with photo:

I think she’s one of the well respected royals and hosts Wimbledon (or the royal box). http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-4698212/The-real-star-Wimbledon-Duchess-Kent.html
Maybe the brooch had historical significance?
Perhaps it was a “test” to see whether or not Megan Markle could maintain her composure in the face of racist stupidity?
That article was about the Duchess of Kent, not Princess Michael of Kent.
To the best of my knowledge, Princess Michael has always had a chip on her shoulder because she has to be Princess Michael, i.e. using her husband’s name as part of her title as is royal tradition that the Queen has avoided for William by giving him a royal dukedom and which she will do for Prince Harry as well. Princess Michael’s husband, the Queen’s cousin, is a prince by virtue of being the grandchild of a monarch and his children are not princes or princesses. I have been following the royal family since the Charles-Diana wedding and I’ve always read that the family members mocked her for her put on airs. I guess that will continue. Also, because she is Catholic, her husband had to give up his place in the royal succession, if I remember correctly. He had as much chance of being crowned as the designated survivor does of becoming President when they stay behind during the State of the Union.
I don’t blame her for being bitter about being referred to by her husband’s name.
Doesn’t mean you need to be a racist jerk on top of it.
Oy vey.
Princess Michael and the Duchess of Kent are two different people.
“To the best of my knowledge, Princess Michael has always had a chip on her shoulder because she has to be Princess Michael, i.e. using her husband’s name as part of her title as is royal tradition…”
I recall reading an article years ago when Princess Diana was still alive that said that to call her “Princess Diana” was incorrect and that her proper name was “Princess Charles” - apparently by the same rules of royal nomenclature that produced “Princess Michael.” But of course the media and especially the public completely ignored that rule in Diana’s case, and she was pretty much never referred to as Princess Charles.
A blackamoor - a bejeweled equivalent of a lawn jockey. Hard to imagine what she was thinking by wearing it, but if she meant offense, she’s really a piece of work as my mother used to say.
My understanding is that in Diana’s case, her appropriate title was Princess of Wales or Diana, Princess of Wales. Had Charles not been awarded the title of Prince of Wales, she would have been Princess Charles. Prince of Wales is not an automatic thing for the eldest son of the sovereign and must be designated by the sovereign.
Scipio, you are correct about the public ignoring rules as in the current trend to still call the Duchess of Cambridge by her maiden name, Kate Middleton, when she has been married for over 5 years.
^No way it was an “accident”. Women don’t just throw on whatever piece of jewelry jumps out of the box. I’m sure she has MANY expensive and lovely pieces. Why anyone would ever wear something like this is beyond me. It belongs in a museum case.
My mistake.
If they’d all keep their regular names it would be easier.
If she doesn’t understand that wearing that piece of jewelry is wrong, she needs some education. My bet is she likes attention, even if it’s negative (maybe that is the only kind of attention she gets). I don’t generally draw conclusions about someone with whom I am not familiar, but a woman in her position wearing a brooch like that is an easy read, IMHO.
It was sickening. And I’m also sickened how the Daily Mail and other UK publications treat our Meghan.
