Wow, Harry and Meghan!

Herding cute kittens… :slight_smile:

I can’t remember where I read it now, but some article online made me smile by mentioning that one of the few sub-cultures in America that can compete with British fascinators is the hat-wearing ladies of the Black Church.

Maybe it was TLo? re: Oprah bringing it, hat-wise, to the ceremony. It was a tie-in I hadn’t thought of!

@NYMomof2

I definitely noticed how color coordinated everyone is, and with those flowers! I’m probably repeating myself now, but I like the way Doria’s dress and the Queen’s compliment one another, instead of clashing.

I didn’t think it was strange the hats are on, since it seems like it’s an important piece to the outfits.

Don Lemon mentioned that on CNN. He specifically referenced Oprah’s hat!

I heard the same type of comment on Oprah’s hat today on an NPR program. The guest, an African-American woman who has lived in London for 30+ years, talked about how American her hat was in keeping with the black church tradition.

Just saying: clearly, various posts, pro and con, hit a nerve or two. But a few pages ago, it was suggested we-- putting this on my own words-- Stay Calm and… whatever. Let’s not get this thread shut down.

Hats were specified on the invitation.

In addition to personal taste, maybe some of the disagreement we see in this thread is due to regional differences even in our own country. Fashion norms and degree of formality are different between the West Coast, the East Coast, the South and everywhere in between.

I thought Megan Markle was beautiful bride, but I definitely prefer a more simple, casual, and natural look. I am a sucker for something meaningful, so I loved the veil having embroidered flowers representing each of the Commonwealth countries. I thought that was a really nice touch.

I heard a television discussion and apparently there are fasinators, hatinators and hats.

@skieurope

You are cracking me up! Resident Royals Expert! :wink:

I think there are rules re when hat-lettes are a must and when they aren’t. But frankly, I now have Google fatigue on this event.

I’m really not an expert on the topic. As I said in another post on this thread, I have no idea why I remember half this stuff. :slight_smile: @Midwest67

I thought it was a bit much that Oprah wanted an entirely new dress made within 24 hours because she decided her original dress was too light colored.

changing the subject for a moment, I thought Karen Spencer surely looked adorable.

What’s with Will? I thought I had noticed, when watching on TV, that he had gained weight, but until today – when I checked out stills of him-- I thought the cameras might have distorted his physique. Did anyone else notice this?

I also compared Meghan’s wedding stills with her other stills. Makeup and hair are so much better in those, even in candid shots. Sorry.

I can understand the reason, although without having seen the original dress, I can’t comment that it was, as Oprah said, "too ‘white.’ "

But it’s not like she picked up the original dress off the rack at Saks. Didn’t she and/or the designer think, at the time, that the color might not be right? Or was Oprah’s explanation code for she didn’t like the original dress? We may never know.

Didn’t she use the same designer as Meghan?

Or code from the Royal Photographer: ‘no way, lady’ :slight_smile:

Or code for “I gained weight, my dress doesn’t fit, so I’ll pretend I had it made overnight.” I find it hard to believe she didn’t think about the color until the last minute.

It’s kind of hard to believe a woman of Oprah’s age didn’t know she should not wear something white or close to it. Or really any age, since it’s pretty common knowledge.

I read an article on it, and IIRC Oprah said something like the color looked ok in person but she later realized it would be too white on camera/tv, and didn’t want to be upstage the bride.

Apparently, Stedman was invited to the Royal Wedding, however, he chose to give a commencement speech at Coppin State U. Hmmm

But as pointed our much earlier, Kate’s outfit looked white, unless standing near actual white.

Also hope now we aren’t going to fat shame Oprah.
