“So funny to find out how popular they were.”
They definitely were memorable!

I do agree that Charles looks better with age, but Andrew…what happened?
My cousin wore sneaks to her wedding. Nowadays, sneakers can be so pretty. Personally, I couldn’t imagine putting on heels, even for my son’s somewhere in the future wedding.
Serena w was among my favorite dressers. Good taste, fit well, looked fab
I don’t think the Duchess of Kent was wearing sneakers. I think she was wearing white orthopedic shoes–the kind a lot of old women in their 80s and 90s wear.
“What’s with Will? I thought I had noticed, when watching on TV, that he had gained weight, but until today – when I checked out stills of him-- I thought the cameras might have distorted his physique. Did anyone else notice this?”
Not really. You can see he’s pretty slim in the video from a month ago when he took the new baby home.
I do think the boxy cut of those uniform jackets add some heft that probably isn’t really there. He does look slim in that video above.
Having watched portions of the wedding again and again, I am now ready to pronounce my personal opinion of the dress. I noted upthread that I did not care for it. The word I was searching for finally came to me - schmatta. It looks like a schmatta. For anyone unfamiliar with Yiddish, the word essentially means an old, yucky rag. I thought that she could have done much better dress wise. I note that other people’s opinions may differ and that’s fine. The beauty of this is that we are entitled to our opinions.
Funny, I loved Meghan’s dress and would never consider it a “schmatta,” but that word seems perfect for Michelle Obama’s inauguration ball dress, the one that looked like a chenille bedspread. (I love Michelle Obama and most of her gowns were spectacular, but that one was awful.)
@techmom99 , thank you for supplying that wonderful word!
“I find it sad that the high-ranking royals are not able to choose careers, or are able to follow their chosen career only for a short time.”
I recall a quote from Prince Charles decades ago when he was a young man to the effect of when he was a little boy he was impressed with the soldiers at the palace, changing of the guard and all that, so he wanted to be soldier, and then later a fireman, and several of the other professions that interest little boys. But after a while he realized “I’m kind of STUCK.”
They had a lip reader on Inside Edition. He said that William said to Harry as they walked in, that his pants felt tight. (maybe he said knickers). then you see Harry look at Williams pants. According to the lip reader Harry said to Meghan, that she looked amazing, but not I am so lucky. I cant remember what he said though.
It doesn’t say on this what Harry said to Meghan but he is the thread https://www.yahoo.com/news/lip-reader-reveals-meghan-markle-174903891.html
Poor Charles! For people who are fortunate enough to choose a satisfying career, it becomes a vital part of their identity. I remember reading that Will loved the helicopter rescue work - there was camaraderie, and of course he derived satisfaction from saving lives. This was the period when he and Kate were living quietly in the north, she was doing her own grocery shopping. But the work was considered too dangerous for an heir to the throne and after a few years he had to give it up and move to London, and take up the family business.
As far as the royals and careers, that’s been pretty much the course for any wealthy people throughout history, the landed gentry and all. They can still pursue their passions and incorporate it into their work as a member of the royal family as Charles has done with architecture. But, sure there are limitations as well as tradeoffs. Their roles provide them with amazing opportunities as well. For me, it’s the lack of privacy, growing up in a fish bowl, and concerns for my loved ones over security concerns that I would find the most challenging.
I can’t seem to link it, but Google the photos from town and country. The black and white photo of them on the steps is my favorite.
No, they were sneakers. Hogan sneakers (or trainers as the Brits say). I guess when you are 85, you can wear what you want.

I recall that commentators at the time said that this period of working and living as more or less ordinary people was granted to Will and Kate by the Queen. She approved because when she and Prince Philip were first married he continued with his naval career for a year or two and she lived on Malta, where he was stationed, as a young naval wife instead of as Princess Elizabeth - an idyllic period that she still fondly remembers. She wanted Will and Kate to have the same. But in both cases duty soon called them back home.
According to rumors, they are in fact moving out of the apartment Harry currently occupies, but they are not moving into Diana’s old apartment. Instead they will move into the 21-room apartment currently occupied by the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester.

Yes, I can confirm it was on mine.
@skieurope you seem to know WAY to much about the Royals. Are you part of the firm? :-SS
I was just looking at an online magazine publication. Why do they keep referring to the Duchess of Cambridge as Kate Middleton? It will read Kate Middleton and Princess Charlotte.
