wow..has CC become the new facebook?

This was all a huge ploy to lure jym back to the asylum!! See how much you’re needed?!

Anybody else feel the chill when Xiggi entered the thread??..it was like Dad coming down the stairs when everybody is goofing off and making too much noise in the basement  :D

Not that I don’t love you Xiggi, ;)

Why would they be alarmed poetgrl? Wouldn’t they like the appreciation showered on them? Like say, the Oscar nominees created a buzz on the contenders so I’m sure the producers are happy with the increased box office results.

P.S. I love you too xiggi, empress jym and poetgrl.

I don’t know why, KR. It’s just a thing.

CC has these kind of rules. It’s a social system. So, there are pockets of this or that, but it’s not to take over the main thing.

Anyway, it’s immaterial. Everyone should just rep comments when they are really good or interesting or helpful. I’m not much of a hall monitor and never have been.

Play through.

I was just visiting a thread that especially inspired me and ended up repping a number of posters not in the green scream club. It felt great to be using rep for the right reason ( lol) and it felt great watching every one of them get a new square when I repped them. Methinks the power has become imbalanced?! Anyhow, back to those of you I owe. Sorry, xiggi, while I do agree, the system lost its integrity long long ago and I dont really see it going back!

It does feel great to give to single-squarers, but I’m not sure that they even notice.

The issue is that CC needs to up the ante. As cute as the little green squares are, they are just…little green squares. If we could all get together and - BOOM! - give a merit scholarship to the kids of deserving posters, that would alleviate the controversy.

Also, taking the eleven squares for every poster theme to its natural conclusion…when everybody has eleven squares we will all essentially be starting at even again, the way we all were before reputation squares existed.

As I wrote before, that cat left the bag a long time ago. My point was not really about reverting to some form of integrity or even sanity, it was about keeping the elements that made it fun and not hastening the removal of the function altogether.

Of course, it is also possible that committing collective suicide is the exact cold turkey some need to … let it go. Weak and addicted as we all are.

So it’s a good thing to rep worthy people individually and yet it’s the kiss of death to do so in an organized fashion? That makes no sense at all. Doesn’t it benefit the whole CC board if the regulars here get to know who has valued expertise in the many corners of CC, so that we can make a recommendation to some poor student or parent, as in: “You should check out the posts of XXX, who regularly deals with such questions”?

God forbid we should be doing something useful!

I am fine with simply compiling a list of valued members with specialized areas of expertise for reference. Folks can choose to rep them or not to their taste.

sax, I already came upon a poster who I could not give any rep to last week. I was puzzled, but now I think she must have done the opting out. Now that it is no longer anonymous, I have stopped my personal campaign to increase the reputation of a couple of college reps I was hitting up regularly.

I confess that I repped several unsuspecting one-square types who are regular contributors in the forum for DS’s school to anonymously boost their cred. They are up to 3 or 4 squares each, solely because of my persistence. Now that we can’t rep anonymously, I am unlikely to continue.

Hi all. Not opting out (yet!) but when I go to control panel, edit options, as directed I see nothing that refers to reputation. I’ve also noticed a poster or two who does not have the white scales - I wonder if that feature was available for awhile then disabled. Am I looking in the right place?

Agree with xiggi, we should keep the fun element, not overdo it and have it removed.

I like this:

and I would like to continue doing the green high-five for these kinds of posts in other threads and not just be confined to the facebook and prestigiosity threads.

For example, there was thread about inheritance and I like the advice given by {name withheld} so I repped him/her and expressed my gratitude.

I agree with Krlilies.

xiggi, “weak and addicted as we all are” pretty much sums us up!

I thought I was clear what part I viewed as wrong and what, in MY opinion, might come out of it. And, again, my opinion is only mine, and I have to live with it, even when I am wrong.

<sigh> I go to work all day and this is what you all are up to? We don’t want to disrupt the real world, then we need to make more rules so we don’t disrupt the real world. Where’s our Sexytary? Please take a memo:</sigh>

-- You must add a name of a poster you respect to The List before you give rep to other people’s recommendations.
– You may only rep a specific post that you like (if you don’t find one or don’t have time to look, stay here - we’ll take your green  ).
– Only one rep per day off The List.

If the list is 200 people instead of 6 the rise will be gradual, and I will find out about lots more posters who I want to know and follow. And my list of subscribed threads that I don’t have time to read will get longer. And someday I will have time to catch up :D:D.

We don’t have to take anyone by storm. And we shouldn’t ambush posters for no reason. But people like us finding out who the good posters are is not a bad outcome.

Where’s crittermom? When she’s around you all play nice!

So proud to announce that thanks to all of you in both ambush and anti-ambush camps, I now have 10,002 points. Please say that the system hasn’t lost all its integrity!

I would like to make it very clear that ear worm, “Popular” from the Musical wicked is not my fault but the fault of neurotic parent. thank you.
