<p>My DH graduted from a UT which he lovingly (tongue in cheek) called “Harvard on the border”. It’s known for its fine bhutanese architecture</p>

<p>And yes, it was indeed UTEP that won that title under Don Haskins when they defeated the all-white ultra-obnoxious Kentucky (what we say in Texas) with a team of black players. </p>

<p>And the context to this thread was that the school used to be called Texas Western College in 1966. And yes, MaineLonghorn, the powerful Austin arranged for the UT at El Paso as soon as the title was bagged. </p>
<p>So, UT did win a BB championship. Darn, we do operate like the Big 10 and the SEC when convenient!</p>

<p>There was a big student protest on campus this summer over GRU. The students and faculty were upset that Augusta in not in the name. I hear they may change the name again (a HS friend of mine works there and complains on FB about the politics of the whole thing).</p>
