wow..has CC become the new facebook?

Clearly I should have been hanging out on this thread, but I was busy last week enjoying things like this: [Petra - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia](Petra - Wikipedia) and this: [Wadi Rum - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia](Wadi Rum - Wikipedia)

Mamabear–Change my Princeton to Chicago in my rep comment too! Congrats even if our kids won’t be at the same schooll!

Unless I can’t count, for some reason it only let me rep 9 instead of 10. Maybe I’ll get one later? I returned rep to everyone I could, including LI’s request to give Bruno14 some love.

Morning all! I was able to hit up shrinkrap, mathmom and Vamom. Will try again later to get some other folks.

I was able to change a couple of twosies to threebies, which was very satisfying. Before I got the “no more for you for 24 hours” message, that is.

My reps must be on different schedules…I can give out a few, then I get the message. And since I have NOT been keeping track of the time when I am told to quit, I have no idea when I can start again! OH well, I do have a life. :D

Thanks to all who hit me up!

math mom, I thought you meant Petra the classic Christian Rock band.

Thanks to those who bumped me up to 3.

Ill try to add points to you if CC will let me

Thank you everyone! I will light you up if I can. :)

Scattering green for the Season! At least as much as I can! ;)

It’s funny how the little daily ritual of sharing green sprinkles has boosted my mood this holiday season. It’s an odd little random act of kindness, but I’m certainly having fun.

Oh, my! My son just had a killer final in differential equations and is now concerned that he might get a B. This would be the first math class in his entire life that he didn’t get a high A in. Nevertheless, he got a perfect score on his honors physics final and has a 100%+ average in his CS class (with bonuses for going above and beyond the requirements).

So it looks like 4 A’s and a possible B for his first semester at Brown; maybe the curve on the differential equations final will work for him, too. I think, all in all, that it’s a respectable start for a kid away from home and responsible for himself. However, with all this talk about rampant Ivy League grade inflation, should we be concerned? He’d like to graduate with honors and possibly continue on to grad school.

^^

I would not worry about it, and definitely not before the grade comes out. As far as I know, very hard classes at Brown will be graded with a generous curve and with clumps/bumps to distribute the A, B, and C grades.

The more difficult an exam is, the higher the chance for a strong student to emerge in the first group.

Oooooh…I’m at 899 points! So close to…something. Is there a name change at 900 points? :D

I thought Brown gave pass/fail for first semester? Am I remembering wrong? Of course those grades are fantastic!

More to it than that, Jym!

[Your Brown transcript, off College Hill - The Brown Daily Herald - Serving the community daily since 1891](http://www.browndailyherald.com/your-brown-transcript-off-college-hill-1.1722969)

I believe that it is MIT that has mandatory pass/fail during its first semester. Brown allows pass/fail (technically satisfactory/no credit) on any and all of its classes, if you choose to opt it. My son did actually opt in for one pass/fail on his optional 5th class (which was recommended against – effectively that’s like taking 20 credit hours elsewhere).

It figures, naturally, that he’s now getting an A in it, but it’s a writing-intense history class and not in his concentration – and it was probably the correct decision because it took pressure off him to continue to do endless research and tweaking of his papers, since he has perfectionist tendencies.

In any case, it appears that the grade you earn in a pass/fail class is not on your official to-the-public transcript but is kept internally and used to calculate your eligibility to graduate with honors, which appears to be within the top 20% of the class. So the A counts where it might matter.

Anyway, that’s pretty much our concern, qualifying for honors – is this the hardest semester because he’s still getting adjusted to new settings or should this have been the cakewalk period with the hard material in the higher level classes? On the other hand, he is taking the advanced/honors version of differential equations intended for math majors. His physics class and statistical inference classes are also advanced or honors versions. There is certainly no fluff work in the courses he selected.

Wait a second… IS THIS WHERE EVERYONE’S BEEN GETTING ALL THE REP?!

Gimme gimme gimme! It’s, uh, my birthday, or something.

Oh, my, StudiousMaximus, you do look in need of some green nourishment! My care packages won’t arrive until this evening but by then, with the help of others here, maybe we can get you a second square?

Wow, I just read this thread’s last five pages or so. Seriously funny stuff. Unfortunately, I will not be able to return rep until my cruise* concludes this Sunday (or more realistically, Monday, because I will be gleefully absorbing the MoMA for the majority of Sunday). Happy green squares to you all!

*from NYC to the Bahamas, if you’re wondering. The internet is restricted/expensive. :(

Come on, Lorem, enough about Brown. It is a distraction to our raison d’

Xiggi, Brown and green work together as nature’s colors. And while I know you are still somewhat green in years, alas I am turning a bit Brown myself. ;)

Stud:

You deserve Green Things.
Sadly, i am out of stuff to give.
