Wow! Tom Watson, 59, leads the British Open

Watson has a one shot lead going into the final round.

This is a huge feel good story. If he wins tomorrow, it will be AMAZING !

GO TOM GO !

I’m not into golf but it’s cool when the older guys do well at a sport.

He still has that same beautiful swing he had during his prime. What a pleasure to watch!

It is a shame Tiger does not go head to head with players like Nicklaus, Watson, Player and Trevino and Palmer. I wonder if the young kids know how good Watson was in his day.

I hope Watson wins it. And I was shocked at his swing too. Looked so smooth and loose.

nice story tonight at the kansas city star website…go to kansascity.com

http://www.kansascity.com/449/story/1332015.html

from the story…
"Can this really happen?

Even Watson wasn’t sure early in the week. Now, the doubts have morphed into determination.

“The first day here, ‘Yeah, let the old geezer have his day in the sun,’” Watson said. “The second day you said, ‘Well, that’s OK.’ And now today, you kind of perk up your ears and say, ‘This old geezer might have a chance to win the tournament.’ I don’t know what’s going to happen, but I do know one thing, I feel good about what I did today. I feel good about my game plan.”

“And who knows?” he said. “It might happen.”"

That was brutal. :(

I’m turning it off now. Boo for Stewart Cink! I think Tom just ran out of steam in the playoff holes. My hat’s off to him.

Nothing wrong with Stewart Cink…seems like a nice guy.
Yeah, I wanted to see the old guy win too. But it’s also nice to have a first time winner…and and American.
I think Watson aged about 10 years in the playoff…but I must say he handled it with grace.

Yeah, don’t hate on Cink. He did what he needed to do. I didn’t realize he’d never won a major before. Congrats to him, even if I wanted the “old guy” to win.

I wanted Watson to win too. Maybe we’ll see him make another run at a major in the future :)

At this phase in career a win means so much more to Cink , but Watson the sentimental favorite.
