Wow, why did I choose this major. Now its too late.

I am a double stats/political science major. I liked my political science classes al right, but decided to get a stats double major so i could get a job.

I now realize I do not like stats. I can do computational stats just fine, but I hate my theory classes. I dont care about my current stats class, i want to shoot myself when I am in class. I didnt really like them last semester either but they were easy so I went with it. I now have one semester left after this one. If I started all over, i would do physics or mechanical engineering or something similar., stats would be very very very far down on the list. Now I am stuck, engineering would take 4 more years, and I hate stats, and political science doesnt get you a job.

I cant really do the just graduate and get a masters because you cant get a masters in engineering unless you major in it. I know I need to graduate, but I am not looking forward to a life of stats.

So get the major, then do something that has nothing to do with the major. Most people end up doing that anyways.
Or go back to school and get a vocational degree.

Stat Theory is difficult…and I say that as I’m studying for my second Stat Theory II midterm.

However, it’s just the theory side of it. Once you make it through you will be better off for it. Nobody expects you to do these crazy stat theory proofs in the real world.

Get a masters in Political Science or History or some such thing and become a teacher.

Why are you so convinced that political science won’t get you a job? No majors get you a job right out of college - you get yourself a job.

^ Plus, even with a degree like PoliSci, there are so many things you can do to make yourself more “marketable” (even though I hate that term; I’m a person, not a product)… for instance, my major is International Relations but I’m currently interning at a Refugee Relocation Service and plan to intern abroad next fall and after undergrad I’m hoping to join the Peace Corps before going to grad school/getting a job… it probably sounds like I’m bragging, but I’m not, I’m just saying that all hope isn’t lost just because one of your degrees is “useless”…
