Wrinkled Sport Coat-Quick Help Needed

Son brought his clean sport coat home, crammed in his suitcase. He has a funeral to attend in the morning. For most wrinkled clothes I stick them in the dryer on low heat with something wet, tumble a little till the wrinkles fall out.

Can I do this with a dry-clean only sport coat? My other option is to hang it in the bathroom and run the shower on hot, but will that work? Or should I try to iron it? The steam function on my iron doesn’t work, so I’d just have to use a damp cloth and a dry iron.

Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

I have used this method with success - depending on how wrinkled the coat is

Hang the coat and spray it with water.

Use a hair dryer to smooth wrinkles.

i would try ironing it, but put the iron on a wool setting (about 2/3 full heat) and make sure your press cloth is really damp. Think about ironing the cloth and not the coat, what you really want is a lot of steam and very little pressure. Then hang it up, smooth out any remaining wrinkles with your hand and let it hang overnight. Don’t worry too much about the details, just make sure the back, the fronts and the sleeves are mostly wrinkle free and the lapels are lying flat.

Probably too late for the OP, but there are “dry cleaning” things sold in the laundry aisle that just freshen clothes without water in the heat of the dryer. Sounds like what they need…Look for Dryell or other systems packaged together… you get a bag, some chemicals, and instructions.

Thanks everyone. I threw it in the dyer for a few minutes with a wet t-shirt, then hung it up. We’ll hang it in the bathroom for morning showers. I’m just too tired to drag the iron out.
