I just recently started writing my essays after procrastinating for months and I’m having writers block. Is anyone in the same shoes? Am I super late for writing essays
My son had planned to write them all over our Christmas holidays. We live in a warm place and spend Christmas at a remote beach. So every morning he wakes, swims or surfs for an hour to wake up and enjoy. Then I don’t let him back to the ocean until he finishes one school. That is motivating! He asked me to hold him to it. Do you have someone who can hold you accountable? One school per day or something similar?
He tells me how he plans to answer each question before he writes. I give him feedback on his idea. Then I proofread it when he is done. A little support, but not too much, is helpful.
I hope you can find a support/accountability partner. The first one is the hardest. One school per day. Unless you are applying to more than 20 schools, you have plenty of time. Good luck!
Thank you so much! I actually do have my mom holding me accountable. I was moreso worried that I’m starting late, and that most people have submitted by now… I got anxious seeing posts from two months ago talking about how it’s already too late to start your essays, but I guess everyone works at their own pace. I’m glad to hear that your son is also starting over break. I have 6 schools, so I think I can get them done with 3 weeks remaining. This post was made a couple of hours ago in the middle of a panic attack if you can’t tell from the writing thanks for the advice and good luck to your family!
For what it’s worth, it’s probably a good idea to learn now that you can tune out the people who said two months back that it is already too late. They are, by any realistic account, wrong. There are going to be people at boarding school who thrive on and perpetuate stress and like to spread it around. They waste a lot of mental energy in doing so. These might not be your people. They certainly aren’t my son’s. He likes to stay in his own lane and paces himself with a plan. Then he sticks to it. Your education is a beautiful marathon. No need to be a sprinter or flame out just before the finish line. I’m sharing these thoughts with you because I think it is helpful for young people to gain confidence in their own abilities and executive function. You’ve totally got this.
