Is writing about standardized testing on essays generally looked down upon? I wrote an essay requiring a quote that changed how I “approached the world”. I chose a quote that I read while reading SAT/ACT tips that stressed simplicity and clarity while on the test. The essay more or less uses studying for the ACT as a launch pad for conversation on how the quote changed how I “approached the world”.
I suggest taking a different approach. Writing about standardized testing is quite boring
I think you would come across as a drone. Seriously – they are hoping for something that implies that you read and think beyond standardized test studying.
I feel like it would be okay to mention something you saw while studying for the SAT/ACT as long as your essay isn’t ultimately about standardized testing. You could also try to find a similar quote in a more “literary” source.
On an ACT I took a couple years ago there was this passage with the main character describing how he got started as a comedian, and there was this part where he said something along the lines of, “My jokes aren’t funny on paper, but Beethoven on paper is just a bunch of black circles.” It stuck with me, but I can’t find it on Google or anything.
I would consider even not even mentioning that you got it from a test. Rather, by lying (I know, shocker in College Essays) say that a former boss or one of your teachers emphasized that point to you. Makes you sound a lot more relatable than the cyborg-istic idea you have right now. It should be a tiny point in your essay anyways so I doubt that I would make a considerable difference.
