Writing an essay as a letter addressed towards someone else?

Several of the colleges I’m applying to ask to elaborate on an extracurricular activity. I’ve taken part in an activity where I was in charge of a group of 11 student delegates in a sort of debate. I thought of structuring my essay as a feedback letter towards those students, in which I would describe what they had done, and implicitly what I had done when I’d been in their position (I also used to be a delegate). Thoughts? Should I just stick to the conventional extracurricular activity-describing essay?

I like the idea, I think you can definitely make it work as long as you keep the prompt in mind.
