Writing and Related Skills distribution requirement

For the distribution requirement for “Writing and Related Skills” you need 10 credits.

They give you 5 credits in English 110 for an “AP English Literature score of 4 or 5” so that’s 5 there.

Can you count this class: “Arabic 367 ISSUES IN ARAB-AMERICAN SOCIETY, CULTURE AND LITERATURE” as a writing and related skills requirement? It sort of looks like the classes with the number 367 in them count for writing and related skills.

If not, how can you tell what classes would count for the Writing and Related Skills requirement?

Thanks!

well, it depends on your major. some majors have their own 367 writing course which is required. for example, i’m a psych major and i had to take psych 367 (social psych). other majors, however, do not offer their own 367 course so you can take whatever class you want. i know a lot of ppl in my psych 367 class weren’t psych majors, but were taking it to filfill the second writing course requirement. so, my advice is to check with your major. oh, and if you’re an honors student they may want you to take an honors 367 course… i didn’t have to, but you may need it for your honors contract.

All classes with the number 367 meet the GEC requirement for a second level course in writing and related skills, so yours would fulfill the GEC.

The honors contract does not specifically require H367, but when you apply to graduate with honors, a committee will assess the overall rigor of your schedule. So you don’t want to take all “weak” GECs (regular 367 is a weak GEC), but as long as you have some harder courses, you’ll be fine.

Like Chelsea said, your specific major might have a writing course they want you to take. For example, English majors must take English 367 for their second writing course.

Thank you! This forum is great.

Yeah, I took Poli Sci 367.01 but wasn’t a poli sci major. One of the best course I’ve taken.
