Creme fraiche, originally produced in Normandy and particularly (useful in) finishing sauces in French cooking because (it does) not curdle, is (produced by) a process (similar to) sour cream. (No error)

It it C (produced by) or D (similar to)?
My reasoning for C is that I think the idiom is produced IN a process
But my reasoning for D is that "produced by a process similar to THAT OF sour cream.

Which is correct?
Thanks.

I would think its D because the process is similar to the process of sour cream, not the sour cream itself. Produced by is fine.

Is is D! Your reasoning is 100% correct. The sentence is comparing the process of fraiche and sour cream, rather than the process of fraiche and the process of sour cream. It should be the latter.

A good grammar topic to look up if you need help with questions like these would be “parallelism”
