I am applying for a lot of programs in European Politics. Many of them ask to submit two writing samples on “an international relations/politics theme”.

Is it risky to submit one directly related to European Politics [on Euro Trade negotiations] - but then submit one that is on US Foreign Policy [it’s a paper on democracy in Iraq] ?

I want to show that I have a wide breadth of knowledge in IR, but is it better to submit two writings on Europe in particular?

Hmmm…this is totally outside my area, but i like to give advice :)

I would say submit them both. As long as you are submitting one about Euro politics, and that is the program you are applying to, that is good.

But they specifically asked for “international” theme…so that would give you some rope to take your own direction a bit.

If you added a section in your 2nd paper on the impact of the US Foreign Policy in Iraq and “how it affects European Politics,” that would be really good.
