I did very well on the math and critical reading sections of the March SAT, but I got a 730 on the writing with a 76 mc and an 8 essay. I am a good writer, but I don’t write well in stressful situations.

How much weight do colleges give the writing section of the SAT? Can good english grades (including AP scores) and application essays counteract writing scores?

It depends on what you want to do and where you want to go. If, for instance, you want to pursue a STEM major and go to schools like MIT or Caltech, they’ll give less credence to your writing score (though a 730 is still quite good, no doubt). If you’re majoring in humanities and applying to say, LACs or schools like Yale, then they’ll count it more. Either way, a 730 is still a great score to have on that section :)
