Writing Seminar

Does anybody have any advice on picking writing seminars or any classes/professors that you would recommend? Thanks!

Both my advisor and my friends at Penn have told me that writing seminars (as interesting as their titles sound) are not really meant to be content-based, meaning that regardless of which writing seminar you take, you’ll end up having to write the same type of paper and follow the same guidelines for your assignments anyway.

My student adviser told me it’s better to pick an English professor because they actually care about English, so you’ll learn more from them about writing.

Though I wonder if picking a science professor would teach you more about writing scientific papers?

Might consider posting this on the fb page for Penn or Whartons…might get more hits.

All writing seminars have the same writing requirements, regardless of what subject they cover. You will learn how to do good scientific papers by taking science courses that emphasize writing and proving research, not by taking a writing seminar.
