Hi,
So I thought I was going pre med but then I later realized in college I want to do law. I got W’s in my pre med classes, specifically 3. However, I am not doing well in my psych class now. Would it be bad to take the fourth W? Does it decrease my chance of law school now.
Your record will be reviewed in its totality and that includes your LSAT (very important), work experience (many are now attending law school with experience, especially at top schools), ECs, essays and more.
3 or 4 Ws isn’t wonderful but it’s also not uncommon.
But each school will look at you differently.
Do what is best for you to succeed now and then you’ll tackle grad school at that time - and you’ll work with the record you have.
Good luck.
Are you a sophomore? How are you doing in your other courses? What is your prospective major?
Pre-Law isn’t a major.
Why aren’t you doing well? That’s the question to ask (and answer). Which Psych class are you taking and when you say not doing well- on the verge of flunking or getting a low B?
Ws don’t get calculated into the LSAC GPA UNLESS they are recorded as a W/FAIL on your transcript.
So, taking a straight W is less harmful than receiving a D or F grade in a class.
That said, schools don’t like to see more than a couple of Ws absent a compelling reason.
How are your other grades ?
Too many Ws suggests either the student has health/personal issues or that the student is not yet prepared for college level work.
Nevertheless, there are about 196 ABA accredited law schools, many of which will gladly take your money if you have an undergraduate degree.
As noted above, the LSAT is important.
You have time to think about law school. Right now I would focus on your classes, get tutoring if necessary, learn better study habits, try to figure out why you are getting W’s, etc.
Law school will always be there.
