The biggest game in college football on Saturday will be played in Evanston, Ill. Fourth-ranked Ohio State—which has won 17 straight games—is visiting No. 16 Northwestern, which has won seven in a row itself.</p>

<p>But if some behind-the-scenes talks among Northwestern officials had gone a little further three decades ago, the Wildcats might be playing Dartmouth this weekend, and the only crowds in Evanston would have been at the library…
