I believe that this point was made early in this thread (or another thread on Rankings)> "How does one make a list which keeps HYPSM at the top otherwise we will be quickly ignored. Once that is accomplished how do we create controversy to drive attention.
By these metrics WSJ was successful. Among those who have been looking at this stuff for years and understand the underpinnings of USNWR and the “traditional” components considered in ranking I do not see them as gaining too much credibility. But, the target audience is the mass market, not those already well versed/invested in the established ranking models and their providers.
And yes, the top private highschools in New York City, Los Angeles, and Chicago have and acceptance rate to Babson of 100% ED and average, none lower, than 85% regular, some 100% regular.
The WSJ list was prompted by a former CEO with initials LF approximately 15 years ago. The information you are sharing is false unless a psychometrician went rogue. He was known for rankings, among other things, and this was a pet project of his that took many years to come to fruition. I worked directly with him at one time- FYI.
In the last 4 years it is not singluarly the top 25% of private high schoolers that are in the 100% ED and 85% RD. It is mostly 50%. Some higher and some lower. It is not considered a reach school. Again, Babson is a good school. No one is saying it isn’t a good school. Simply bringing clarifiation to how the list came to be and how that may influence people in a less than transparent way.
I am not trying to make you defensive, I am sharing what I know and what I am sharing is nor breaching any contract, but that is about all I can say. Good luck with all your endeavors.
My 25 goes to a good (largish) public that sends plenty of kids to Ivys and top SLACs, etc…Babson acceptance isn’t super high % wise, BUT applicant pool isn’t top-tier. kids get in with lower GPAs and scores than Ivy’s - these kids would have no chance…
Average GPA accepted to Babson is less than BU, Northeastern, same as UVM and Umass Amherst…
Of the very few who have applied ED; they were denied, but were very average students for the school…no ranks here, but you can estimate.
Of those denied overall, only one would I consider having a to 20% GPA but they didn’t have top SATs.
Also, my younger goes to an academically rigorous private school - I don’t think anyone has gone to Babson in recent memory…To my knowledge few do undergrad business majors and stick to traditional academic subjects.
Note: a large % of parents have PhDs…many are high-level executives and executive scientists in industry - data scientists, PE, pharma, etc. I think idea of not going to grad school isn’t in most kids heads…
To remind people that CC is not a debate society, and debating is not permitted. So move on from the topic of Babson Admission Rates or the purpose of the WSJ. Make your point and move on.
