WU leader steers it to stratosphere

<p>Interesting article about WashU Chancellor.</p>

<p>During his tenure, Washington U. has more than doubled the number of applications it receives, in the process becoming one of the most selective universities in the country. Last year, it admitted just 17 percent of the 22,400 students who applied for a spot in the freshman class.</p>

<p>When he first arrived, the school’s endowment was $2 billion. Today, it has swelled to $5.7 billion. And the school raised more than $1.5 billion in a nine-year capital campaign that ended in 2004.</p>

<p>Dozens of buildings have gone up under his watch, including many new residence halls, the law school, the home for biomedical engineering, and the new Mildred Lane Kemper Art Museum. Many more are going up or are on the drawing board, including a medical research building, a new student center, and an engineering campus.</p>
