Has anyone here applied late for a school and NOT got the WUE (applying late as in March/April)?

I plan to transfer to UNLV on a WUE scholarship (so starting Fall 2014 after 1 year of college), but I was wondering if anyone that applied late-- basically a few days ago, didn’t get the WUE.

I’m pretty worried because this transfer process took so long with my school and I really want to transfer from my current University, but I can only do so with WUE.

Additional info:
July 1 is the deadline for admission for UNLV.

Thank you!

It is not automatic and is limited by funding:

“Awards are offered to the UNLV entering freshmen class and eligible transfer students. This scholarship is not guaranteed to all students who meet the criteria because of funding limitations. Priority consideration is provided if the eligibility requirements are met and you are admitted by the February 1st deadline until scholarship funds expire. This scholarship is not considered an entitlement program. Students are encouraged to apply for admission to UNLV as early as possible.”

I’ve read that when I applied and am very, very aware of that. I’m not asking about what the policy is.

I’m asking if anyone has experience with the WUE and have applied to a WUE school late and got/or got denied a WUE scholarship.

Oh for heavens sake. YOU were in the drivers seat on when you applied, not your college. If the application is late, it is because you submitted it late. Don’t blame anyone else.

As noted, this is not guaranteed.

I don’t know for sure, but if I were a betting woman, I’d say the applications submitted on time will be considered first.

I’m not complaining about the college. I understand I applied late and if I do not get it, then it is completely my fault. I just would like to hear from the people that have applied though. When have I ever blamed anyone? I reread every word in my thread and it seems I’m being targeted for nothing.

I just want to know FROM PREVIOUS WUE APPLICANTS, or people who know of WUE applicants, if they were ever denied the offer and if so, possibly why.

(Sorry for the caps, trying to make it clear to future posters.)
(P.S. I’ve read everything on <a href=“Western Undergraduate Exchange (WUE)”>http://www.unlv.edu/finaid/scholarships/wue , so no need to quiz me on info from that webpage.)

You said “I’m pretty worried because this transfer process took so long with my school.”

Just get that application done…it clearly states the applications should be done as early as possible. You might get lucky, and get the award.

But just in case not, have a Plan B.

Ask this on the UNLV page. Each school sets its own rules for WUE, how many students to accept, what the requirements are. Fifteen people could respond that THEY applied to Utah or Wyoming or UNC on April 15 and were denied, or accepted, or waitlisted, and that won’t change your status or even let you know what the possibilities are because UNLV will do what it wants or what it can with the money it has.

Or you could call UNLV and ask them if they’ve given away all the WUE money this year or if you still have a chance.

@twoinanddone Would it be rude to call up a college and ask them if they given away all the WUE money? I was considering that before submitting my application ($60 application fee… yikes), but I didn’t want to come off as rude.

It is not rude at all. Just call and inquire. Say you are interested in applying to UNLV as a WUE recipient, as a transfer, and ask if there is still money available for that program.

Just remember, even if they say YES, there is no guarantee that you will be a recipient.

DD tried WUE at another university. They only accepted one WUE! It wasn’t my daughter. There are no guarantees; they run out of monies fast. If you applied late, it wasn’t a priority for you. As I said, WUE is not guaranteed and first come first served.
