******WUSTL Merit Scholarships Class of 2020******

WashU is a great school but DD thinks it won’t make sense to attend for engineering w/o merit aid. Other alternatives she is considering are ranked well too and she will be able to attend them for much lower price.

@elcollege This is pure speculation, so take it with a grain of salt, but if they are going to take the trouble and cost to fly people out, set up meetings, and so forth, I would think the odds are pretty good for the people who travel out to WashU and embody what they are looking for. Congrats by the way.

Of course there are exceptions - Georgia Tech invites 100 people out for their Presidential Scholarship interviews, but selects just 40. But they are up-front about that.

@inn0v8r Thanks for your reply. I am the parent, so I really wish my senior could get some scholarship to attend the college because the cost is really high. That’s why I posted my questions above. I will cross my figure for the hope. Thanks again.

If anyone in this forum has the experience for the scholarship finalist interview at Wash U campus, can you please share the experience about what the student needs to do for the final interview chance and try to get some scholarship?

Any information is highly appreciated.

I agree with @momof2eagles in that one must not count on these merit scholarships at top ranked schools that give out scholarships to less than 5 percent of applicants. But when you have a kid who is a finalist for Robertson Scholarship at Duke and Morehead-Cain scholarship at UNC, but does not even qualify at WashU for a merit scholarship, then you really need to think about what the selection criteria at WashU is. I also agree with @TytoAlba and others in that if you don’t apply, you wouldn’t know.

@detroit48304 - Robertson scholarship is oriented towards service. I think a similar one is Danforth at WashU.

Does anybody know when WashU’s regular admissions results come out?

@mscrystal they haven’t announced but based on patterns people speculate March 7

Also, does anyone have any information on finalists for Rodriguez? (I.e. How many finalists? How many win full? Half?)

@baller55 Hi I’m an Ervin scholarship finalist and I went to Washu during discovery weekened. My host was also an Ervin so I texted her to get some info. She said that around 70 are invited as finalists and in her year (which was last year), her Ervin class was 44. She also said that a big reason some people weren’t Ervins is because they had better offers from other schools. I would say that if you’re selected as a finalist then they WANT you to get the aid, so your chances are great. She says they just really want you to validate everything you’ve said in your application. Hope this helped.

I also went to discovery weekend and there were about 25 Rodriguez scholars but idk how many finalists

@baller55 @boobop33 Thanks for sharing the info…

Have you get chance to talk to the Rodriguez or Ervin scholars at campus visiting about what Rodriguez or Ervin scholars need to do at campus? Thx.

@elcollege I know that all students get an itinerary. You attend scholarship specific dinners and you have an interview. There are scheduled activites you must attend but much of it is flexible. I heard someone describe it as Washu’s final attempt at selling their school to us.

@boobop33 Thanks a lot! sorry for the late response, very busy.

those looking at thread for next year def. apply to scholarships and look at it as a way to show more demonstrated interest in a school that doesn’t have supplemental essays and cares greatly about demonstrated interest. Wonderful for the amazing kids that got these scholarships, but even if you don’t get it (probably less than 5 percent do) know you can still get into Wash Univ . S didn’t get scholarship and got in RD.

I am a senior who just interviewed for the Ervin Scholars program this past weekend. There were a little over 70 Ervin finalists. Someone I met from Rodriguez said there were forty-something of them. My interview was relatively relaxed and focused mainly on my application and what I would do at WashU. From what I understand, there is no set number of students who receive scholarships. We’re supposed to be notified of the scholarship decisions soon. If you have any questions about applying to WashU or their scholarships, or the Scholars Weekend, let me know!

Who got into the scholarship programs? What are your stats? What did you write about it your essay?

I applied for Mylonas, Ervin, and Rodriguez…
