I am having an extremely hard time choosing between WVU and UMD: College park.
My end goal is to go to dental school. I have heard both good and bad about both schools but nothing from actual graduates. My biggest dilemma is that I am a MD resident. I would be paying around $20,000 to attend UMD, whereas I would be paying around $35,000 to attend WVU. I want to go to a college that has a decent dental school; I want to go to a college that has a great/ lively student life. I wouldn’t mind meeting tons of new people and maybe attending a party or two once or twice a week. Would it be stupid of me to pay and extra $15,000 per year to go to WVU? Could anyone here help justify going to a college out of state such as WVU, or should I stay in state (MD)?
Feel free leaving any other colleges that you guys might know of that aren’t overly expensive. I am mainly looking for a school that is reputable, fun and cheapish.
I would be going as a transfer student with a 3.8 if that helps any.
All opinions about WVU vs. UMD aside… would Immunology and Medical Microbiology be of interest to you as a major? You could get in-state reciprocity at WVU for this major through the Academic Common Market. The catalog recommends it as a pre-dental option. http://home.sreb.org/acm/ProgramDetail.aspx?id=4923&state=MD
A couple of considerations, which may or may not be important to you: College Park doesn’t guarantee on-campus housing for all 4 years of undergraduate. Do you know that the dentistry school (and all health graduate work) for the University of Maryland is NOT in College Park, but rather in downtown Baltimore? I’m pretty sure you could do both undergrad and dental school at Morgantown if you opted for WVU.
