Xavier Sparks Student Backlash, Changes Its Campus Living Requirement to 3 Years

Xavier University has tagged on another year to its campus living requirement, requiring students to live on campus for three years starting in 2026. It’s a change some students say is a money grab made with zero student input amid declining enrollment, and Xavier maintains was primarily motivated by student well-being.

In a post on the Office of Residence Life’s FAQ section, Xavier states that, starting in fall 2026 for the class of 2030, all unmarried incoming students ages 17-21 are required to live on campus for three years, with exceptions for those living with a legal guardian or commuting.
