Xavier University Class of 2028

Starting current year thread.

My son had a great tour guide and it appears to be in his top 3. Applied last week.

Accepted with $28k/yr scholarship

Same basic timing here - DD24 applied on Oct. 29 and got acceptance on day before Thanksgiving. The 28K scholarship seems to be the base merit one for good students? DD24 got the same one as your son.

S24 applied at the end of Oct and found out he was accepted with the same merit scholarship on Nov 16. We did not make the Musketeer weekend but will try again in the spring if he narrows it down to this and 1-2 other schools. He was pleased with the merit package.

Can you include stats? Would like to know if in line with S25’s stats to see what kind of merit money would be available to him. Thanks.

Hello guys is there anyone who did virtual interview with tĥe CEF scholarship at Xavier University?

DC24 is in at Xavier and it’s one of the top 3 they’re considering. Applied for the CEF scholarship but was turned down w/out interview. Still has about $29k in merit money when all is said and done.

Applied test-optional very early in the fall and received admission quickly. Has a 3.4uw GPA at a rigorous DC area public high school, with lots of AP/IB/DE classes on the transcript. A nice set of long-term ECs (sports, volunteering, part-time job).

Curious about whether anyone else in the Washington area has a child considering Xavier. It does not seem to be a popular choice at our HS per Naviance, although in some ways this may be a feature instead of a bug.

Have you visited? We are going in April. Not from the DMV but not from the midwest either. I assume most students will be local if that matters. I personally value receiving a college experience with a crowd outside the local bubble but our kids are the ones living it so obviously not my decision.

Yes, we did go and visit. Campus itself was very nice, students seemed relaxed and happy. The stat they gave us was that more than 50% of the students were from outside Ohio. But not sure if that means Kentucky + Indiana + Pennsylvania…

Surrounding area leaves a lot to be desired – not a whole lot in terms of shops, food places, places to hang out and socialize. In fact, the socialization part is giving DC pause – they’ve heard from several people that campus life is pretty quiet, there aren’t too many parties, etc. And while I don’t want them doing Tuesday night kegstands, I would like there to be the occasional outlet for blowing off steam. And I would like it to be on/close to campus to keep everyone safer.

Thank you for the update. Although I think you should be studying at all times :joy: I do look at how quiet a campus is & if there are fun places nearby. That’s part of the experience too. Socializing.

We are in the DMV are and my daughter just committed to XU. 3.5 gpa, varsity volleyball all 4 years; first chair trombone player etc. Her top choices were Xavier, LSU, Towson, U of Alabama (although she was accepted to 18 schools)…in the end class size and attention to helping the student succeed and scholarship awards were the determining factor.
