This is the official discussion thread for Xavier University Class of 2029 applicants. Ask your questions and connect with fellow applicants.
2/14/25 Son just got accepted to Xavier, business major. We’re from SF Bay Area. If anyone can share what the campus vibe’s like, would much appreciate it. Son’s quite social, worried the campus may be too isolated. Thanks!
Congrats to your son! My social kid wound up choosing Xavier last year and is having the time of his life. Freshman orientation (“Manresa”) is very well planned and incorporates lots of trips to fun places around Cincinnati, among other opportunities for new students to get to know each other. The first week of classes features a day on the quad where everyone signs up for clubs/sports/activities. (The business school has a few groups to join, and they host lectures/events throughout the year.) Basketball season is huge, but the school cleverly implements a system where attending other X sporting events gives students priority for basketball tickets – again, a great way to get together with friends or meet new people. And for those who want to partake, there definitely seems to be the traditional house party/bar-that-doesn’t-closely-check-IDs scene. All in all, my kid has friends at some of the big state schools and has never felt like he was missing out.
This is super helpful, thank you! My son is still 50-50 but we’re attending Admitted Students Day next month and hoping it will be a fun, and swaying experience for him. It will also be our first visit to Cincy so I’ll make sure to hit some good spots to familiarize him with the area. I sent your reply to him Great to hear your son is loving XU! THANK YOU!
Glad I could help. FYI, the Xavier alumni association is putting together March Madness watch parties for tonight’s (3/21) game in several cities, including one billed as being San Francisco-adjacent. If it’s anywhere near you, I highly recommend going and talking to some of the parents and younger alums. X folks are a friendly, welcoming bunch, especially if you tell them he’s considering attending.
