XM Listeners, any favorite stations?

H gave me XM for my car for the big 5-0 bday, and I’ve really enjoyed it. It looks like they’re always adding new programming. Do you have any favorites I should know about? Right now I’m programmed with 60’s, 70’s, 80’s, 90’s, CNN, Fox News, Heart, Conservative Talk, top 20…What do you listen to?

i often listen to dave ramsey, a financial guru who encourages people to live debt free and interestingly enough for this board, for kids to put themselves through college. he also tells you how and interesting people call in.

He sounds interesting. What channel is he on, TalkRadio? I was surprised to hear G Gordon Liddy is the a.m.guy on the Conservative Radio channel. I thought he was still in jail! Laura Ingraham is on in the pm…a less caustic version of Ann Coulter. I also listen to public radio to get the liberal slant on the news. Gotta be well rounded, right?

just google dave ramsey and it will say where and when he is on. he’s on lots of terrestrial radio too…

Unfortunately, my favorite channel (51, Music Lab) is online only these days. I think Sirius is going to get my business in the near future.

The Loft … XM 50

Ed Schultz XM Talk Radio 165 - He’s a Democrat and I guess sort of a liberal talk show host (although often not liberal enough for me - ha) - but he’s in North Dakota and used to be a conservative radio host (married a nurse who does social work and I don’t know, changed his mind, I guess). He has an interesting perspective; very pro-working folks, a hunter and outdoorsman, and a real sensible middle-of-the road guy. Sort of a refreshing voice. (Happy Birthday!)

Thanks, Weenie. What does Ed Schultz talk about? I love Dr. Laura ( I know, not about her gay opinions but about everything else) but the kids get hysterical when I tune in to her. (they say she’s only interested in selling books and is mean…out of the mouths of babes)

Sorry - I was adding stuff when you posted.

Welcome to the XM Nation! I think it’s a great service. I love Soul Street (60) for my Motown/Chess/Stax, etc. fix; The Groove (64) for my Funk; Real Jazz (70), Take 5 (155) for my “girl talk” and The Power (169) for African American talk. Of course I also listen to a little bit of everything else in between. :-)

XM 75 is the Starbucks channel and is the only station DH, DD, DS, and self can all agree on.

XM 150 keeps me awake every time I drive long distances, alone. That alone is important–it’s the adult comedy channel.

XM 220 is invaluable… Seattle traffic station.

I’m surprised that no one has mentioned this yet. It’s some of the best radio I’ve heard - ever.

As you know if you’ve heard the show, each segment is organized around a particular theme (weather, jail, marriage, flowers, baseball, summer . . . you get the idea). The tracks that Dylan plays - all of which relate to that show’s theme - range widely over different eras and musical styles. More than anything else, what makes this show so unusual and pleasureable is the rich variety of Dylan’s choices.

I’m not sure how long this show will last - how many great themes are there(?) - but if you have any interest in Dylan, in different kinds of music, or simply in interesting and surprising radio, you really ought to check this show out.

^^^Re: Dylan’s Show

I did forget about that one and, you’re right, it’s a great show! That’s yet another thing I love about XM, the special shows and features they offer.

like gymeni I like 60, 62,64 which are soul/funk stations. 75, 76,77–> 75 Starbucks is OK but can be boring sometimes imho but I like it, 76 if you’re lucky or follow the guide, can be great…there’s a show I believe on Sundays that plays American Indian powwow music if you might like that (I do), and 77 is all instrumental acoustic weird stuff that’s interesting esp for long trips.

Also like 110 and 113, classical stations, and 27 (Cinemagic).

Have fun, you’ll never go back to standard AM/FM.

Are there any literary channels on XM? Readings and interviews by Authors? Criticism? Poetry? I’m a book junkie and would love a channel that celebrates books (fiction and poety in particular) the way I do.

I don’t think that there’s one dedicated to literature, per se. Closest thing there would be the public radio station.
