XM Radio

OK, I thought I would ask here because you all seem to know stuff – it is time to renew our XM Radio subscription and I have been hearing rumors for a while about them going bankrupt. It is around $146 for a year. How long do you think it will be before they go under? We have it in my husband’s car and he really enjoys the ESPN and PGA channels and it’s also the car we use for long trips so I like the music channels. What do you think? Worth the risk or not?

A big local bookstore just went under this past week and I lost $100 in gift card money so I’m a little leery of losing more money. I’m planning to go out this week and spend all the rest of our gift cards to various stores and restaurants which add up to about $700. Should be a big week! I have a lot at Talbot’s and a little at Borders and I’ve heard rumors about both of them.

I think Sirius radio bought them. I have Sirius, and for the last several months they been saying “Sirius/XM”. Haven’t you noticed the changes in the line up?

Uh oh!

Sirius XM Radio is worth the risk. Even if they go bankrupt it does not necessarily mean they will go out of business. The idea of having my music interrupted by commercials is not something I can deal with in a rational universe. Sirius XM has millions of subscribers and continues to grow. They have plenty of revenue to remain in business for a long time once they can get their expenses under control.

I pay monthly, rather than one fee upfront.

I’m with milkandsugar… we pay monthly. However, streaming through your computer will now cost an extra fee beginning in March… but I still think it’s worth it.

We just renewed our subscription today in fact. And we do it monthly. It went up about 30% in cost since the merger.

Digital broadcast FM terrestrial radio.

OK, thanks, I went ahead and paid it for the whole year. I went online and the price was the same as it had been for the past three years and I didn’t see an option to pay monthly so I went for it.

^Oh I just checked; the increase in fee I mentioned wasn’t for our subscript, it was for the extra account we have (we bought for a relative as a gift). Sorry about that.

I bought an iTrip. It plugs into your iPod and transmits an FM signal so that wherever you can get radio, you can listen to your iPod. I love it, and NO COMMERCIALS EVER!! And it was only $50.
