how come EE’s don’t need to take the MCAT?

Because most EEs aren’t going to Med School?

Where did you hear that engineers don’t need to take the MCAT to apply to medical school? Everyone has to take the MCAT if they’re trying to get into med school. (the exceptions are the people in a BS/MD program)

mechanical engineers have to take the MCAT regardless of going to med school or not.

but why do me’s have to take it to work as me’s but not EE’s?

This is all new to me…are you using ME as mechanical engineer or medical examiner?

proton, did you read this on a website or a book? If so, could you provide a link/title? This is the first I’ve heard of anyone not applying to med school needing to take the MCAT.

mechanical engineers dont have to take the MCAT. MCAT’s are for prospective med students only.

Proton, OP, says they do…go figure. People will believe anything they read apparently. I am wondering if Proton is confusing medical examiner with mechanical engineer!! HA H AH A

hazmat, I’m guessing he/she did confuse the abbreviations. After all, what does the Medical College Admissions Test (MCAT) have to do with engineering of any sort?

What the heck are you talking about, the only people that have to take the MCAT are med school applicants, not engineers of any kind.

no when i said “me” i meant mechanical engineering.

and my teacher said that all mechanical engineers have to take an 8 hour test called the MCAT in order to work as a mechanical engineer.

or if its not the MCAT its some other test but its a very long test

well your teacher is wrong. the mcat’s are an exam for admittance into med school

Your teacher was probably referring to the “Fundamentals of Engineering” or FE Exam which engineers take to become “Engineering Interns.” After you work for 4 years, you take the PE Exam to become a certified engineer. I don’t know about ME, but almost everyone in Civil or Environmental Engineering has to take this, but hardly anyone in Electrical or Computer Engineering. The reason is that CEE people work on public projects that need to be signed off on, while ECE people work on corporate projects and don’t need professional certification. The FE Exam is 8 hours, but it’s really easy to pass (passing score = 50%) and any decent school has an almost 100% pass rate.
