Yahoo mail down for over 24 hours for thousands

Does anyone have any information about this unexpected service disruption? Yahoo has handled this in a textbook example of how to lose customers. Several different screens with technical bug messages appeared throughout the day, with disabled links to fixes. Finally, a message saying yahoo mail is undergoing “extended scheduled maintainance” with a reassurance that my account is fine.

Yahoo mail’s facebook page is a festival of irrate comments. The worst part is their facebook post stating that customers should be able to access their mail on phones, tablets and other devices.

Nope. Down, and unable to log in using computer, laptop, phone or tablet.

Before I realized this was an issue for thousands of accounts around the world I spent a few hours holding on their customer service phone purgatory, listening to music and then being cut off after five minutes, over and over.

What a mess for customers who were given no advanced warning, especially this time of year.

And nothing on any news outlets about what is really going on.

We have had this family account since the 1990’s and never had an issue. I can not access anything right now because I can’t even log in. All of our folders are unavailable… College contacts, coach contacts, the folder with my kids’s Christmas list links, everything. Argh.

That is incredible. I did a google search and found this one article:

[Email problems for Yahoo users | 9news.com](http://www.9news.com/money/368151/344/Email-problems-for-Yahoo-users)

They mention going to only secure connections….but that does not seem to be the issue here at all. Ugh. So sorry!

Mine was fine all through that time period. However, my techy S had been after me for a long time to use Gmail as he said yahoo has tons of issues (and, yes, my yahoo accounts had been hacked at least twice). I hate change, so only recently started using my Gmail in addition to my yahoo and am trying to change all my contacts over.

Not seeing a yahoo problem at the moment, though have had in the past.

It seems to be a very random issue. Some people are reporting that their account is down but their spouse’s or coworkers’ accounts are fine. For some it is their personal account, for some it is a business account.

There are several sites, that I have never had reason to seek out prior to yesterday, that are reporting that Yahoo Mail is online, but that there are increasing reports of service disruptions beginning early yesterday. It is not just in the U.S.

It is crazy that Yahoo has gone completely dark on this. Althouth their login page announcement now says it is “Planned Maintainance”, there was no advanced warning, and there has been no attempt to explain anything.

No problem here but I did have a problem or two a couple of days ago. When I closed the window and logged on again, it worked. One weird, and new, issue I had was that when I clicked on inbox, the screen where the list of emails should have been, turned black! Today everything is okay. Fingers crossed!

Update:

This issue is finally getting reported in a few places. For those people who lost their mail service, the issues continue.

For most of us affected, yahoo mail crashed at 10:47(ish) on Monday evening. Some are reporting that they lost their mail a day earlier.

Today Yahoo did finally make a statement that negated their “planned maintenance” statements… Although “essential but extensive maintenance” is still the error message that appears when I try to log in. This morning they put out a statement that they expected a resolution by 3:00 pm, Pacific Time today. That time has passed, and the most recent statement is that the problems will be fixed (or they will make another statement) at 8:00pm PT.

What a bungled mess for the company.

Why do people (and companies) think that a little lie is EVER the best way to handle a problem?

Mail is accessable on my desk and laptop, but not yet on my phone or tablet.

And thus far my inbox has no new mail from the time it went off line. Hmmm. Hope that all shows up at some point.

So bizarre. Mine was working all the time, happily delivering all wanted and unwanted spam. Google mail…sporadically dumps messages in clusters into my inbox at random intervals, so I’m always late to the conversation in those threads. That’s why I stuck with Yahoo.

Mine has been working to. I’ve had the same account since the 90 s also. I’ve never had any problem caused by Yahoo. I did get hacked once, but was able to change my password and move on. Sorry for the frustration. It’s amazing how much we depend on our electronics these days.

eastcoast, my DH told me about the problems tonight, but he didn’t know his problem was Yahoo related. He hasn’t been able to get in since Monday night and blamed it on his computer. He could get onto his mail acct at his office. And my son hasn’t had any issues.

So thank you for starting this thread. My DH was toying with the idea that he needed to get a new computer. That’s how random the problem, but also how unhelpful Yahoo has been about it.

I didn’t have any issues with mine.

D’s is back, but mail from the past 2 days is still in limbo-land.

I had a problem accessing mail a few days ago. When I tried to log in, I got an error message with a number (maybe it was 14?), and when I looked up that error message on the Yahoomail troubleshooting website, it said to clear my cache and cookies. That did the trick. Apparently they did some kind of security upgrade that was incompatible with cached material and cookies (I say that as if I have a clue what I’m taking about). Anyway, it’s been fine since then. But in general Yahoomail has been a bear to use since their big revamping a couple of months ago which deleted the very useful ability to have multiple folders open simultaneously and added nothing of value. I’d switch, but I had to use Gmail in the past for a charity I worked with, and I hated it. I don’t know where else to go at this point.

Flossy, my dh is in the same boat but his he has received a small number of the email that should have arrived during the down time. Just logged back in now and there’s a ''we’re experiencing some technical difficulties – error 15" message again.

Bad enough that yahoo’s having problems but they need serious lessons in PR–they’re handling this terribly.

Hope it’s over for everyone involved very soon.

Apparently somebody at Yahoo got the message about their black hole of information, and how ticked off their customers were.

Since yesterday afternoon Yahoo has been posting updates on Yahoo Mail’s Facebook page, which is an open group. You can read the updates and thread comments without having to join the group. If nothing else, the thread comments give you an idea of how other people are affected, and how the process to restore our accounts is progressing.

Still no mail access for most people on phones and tablets, particularly Apple products (ios platforms?), and various error messages still show up. I worked around this by adding the Yahoo Mail App on my phone. My Ipad is too old to support that, though, so until they fix that glitch, I have to log into Yahoo Mail through Safari on my Ipad.

I still have no email from the 36 or so hours my account was down, but Yahoo says that should be restored, too. I am receiving new mail, though.
