Yale 2015 SCEA Hopefuls

Wasn’t aware that it decreased last year. Here’s hoping!!

I just got my Eli Account info!!! Unfortunately, it says that confirmation of my teacher recommendations/school report will come only after November 15. That was the part I was most worried about, too.

Has anyone from the Bay Area received an email regarding an ASC interview?

Hmm… how bad is it if you are NOT offered an interview? I mean, I think on Yale’s website it says that they won’t count it against you if they don’t have alumni in your area or anything, but I can’t help but feel like I’ll just be a faceless name in a sea of well-qualified applications…

So, hypothetically, if our Eli account showed that something was missing from our application, would we be unable to be considered for SCEA because it’d be past the deadline? I had some stuff mailed, and that can be a crapshoot.

Also, I live close to Atlanta and still haven’t gotten an interview. But I submitted on Monday, so no worries.

Just out of curiosity, how many of you applying SCEA would consider Yale your first choice?

I’m SCEA and would cut off my left leg to go to Yale.

My first choice too.

Columbia was my 1st choice for a while, but Yale quickly became my first choice after visiting/learning more about it.

DEFINITELY my first choice. Was iffy at first, but after visiting and researching, there’s no school that I love better.

Definitely my first choice, though I haven’t visited yet.

No, I don’t think this is the case. It’s not like they start reading all the apps on Nov. 2. I think it’s okay if some things trickle in after the deadline (especially supplemental things or things that you don’t submit [LORs, etc.]). I wouldn’t worry about it, especially if it was postmarked Nov. 1 or earlier.

My supp has not been downloaded…what about you guys?

If it says downloaded 11/2 on common app but I def submitted it several hours before the deadline, is that ok?

also they haven’t downloaded my supplement or school forms or anything–it just says completed.

I’m sorry for sort of spazzing out but this is alright, right?

It said on the Elihu Yale page, if Common App accepted it its completely fine.
So no worries :).
I have the same thing, but its all submitted, so hopefully it was all downloaded…should we be seeing that for supplements + school forms too?

To all Yale ( and other top colleges) applicants:

I thought I would share this. Be realistic and apply to other good colleges too and most importantly read the last paragraph. True statement, IMO.

A Few Words of Advice from the Yale Dean of Admissions, Jeffrey Brenzel, Yale Class of 1975

It’s likely that if you are reading this message, you are looking to apply to Yale, perhaps looking for a clue in my words to how to increase your chances of admission. Actually, you can find what we have to say about making a good application elsewhere on our website, and I have nothing to add on that subject.

However, while you’re here, I think I may be able to offer you a few unconventional thoughts about admissions by pointing you down the road past the admissions process to the date when you will be holding admissions offers in your hands, whether from Yale or other great colleges.

I say “other great colleges” for a reason. If you are in fact a realistic applicant for Yale, it is virtually certain that you are going to be admitted to a number of strong, quite selective colleges. After all, we are all looking for students like you, with talent, achievement, and high aspirations. If you happen to be in the midst of the application process right now, you may be anxious about where you will be admitted. You may feel as if everything depends on which colleges admit you, or whether a certain one does.

After years of experience, however, here is what I know, virtually to the point of certainty: almost nothing depends on exactly which strong college admits you. Everything depends on what you decide to do once you get to a strong college, and how well prepared you are to take advantage of the infinite opportunities you will find there.

^Sir,
That is truly a great message we CCers should take to heart.
But, I do not think this message will seep into anyone here, until after the admissions process. After all, even Jeffrey Brenzel would have had to pass through this process to grasp it. In short, we will have to experience, in its true vividness, everything like everyone before us, before we understand what has been said above. For now, we remain delusional.

I just thought I should point out that the Harvard forum followed our lead, and made a Harvard 2015 SCEA Hopefuls thread. Lol.

Way to set an example, Yale SCEAers! :P

Good words!

fasho.

also that was a really inspirational nice message that I am having trouble believing lol.

Nobody has a chance of getting into Harvard SCEA. xDDD
