^
I think it’d be awesome to /get/ serious! Haha. Bowling is fun, but I rarely ever do it.

I really want to play intramural sports too. I used to play soccer and I miss it a lot and I want to play football, but i don’t know how that will work if i do gymnastics. It seems like so much fun.

^I would say I am a not-so-serious-at-all-play-occasionally-for-fun bowler. :)

Intramurals are definitely great. There’s a whole lot less pressure (practices are usually pretty chill, and you don’t have to be good at the sport), and because of that you get to try new sports.

Anybody play Xbox? Lol. I play on occassion (I’ve only played a handful of times since the summer).
I mentioned in my interview that I play Xbox sometimes (in my free time), and she liked my honesty. She had kids of her own, so it’s not like she didn’t know Xbox is out there!

If it helps, I’m pretty skilled at Wii bowling ![]()
Basically the only thing I have to complain about at Yale is the lack of an equestrian team. Riding is so important to me, and it’s basically the only sport I enjoy doing seriously (although not as seriously as others). I may join club rugby…my brother plays, and it seems really cool - wayyyy better than football.

Perfect. I told my interview I was a serious bowler and was in love with the game.

He smiled and said the local bowling alley at Yale was the place where all his friends went because it was lax on underage drinking back in the late 80s haha.

rugby is so much better than football, at least what you call football. although, i recognise that this probably isn’t the best place to make such a statement!

Wait, how are soccer and football different? and how is american football different? I’m confused now.

American football is a completely different sport. You can look up footage on youtube or something. Soccer and just plain football are the same thing. However, in America, if you say “football,” people will usually assume that you’re talking about American football, not soccer.

I want to do intramural soccer! It’s the only sport that’s ever really held my attention. American football is rarely exciting. Plus, being in band and being required to attend every high school football game for the past four years has made me really, really tired of it. Watching the world cup this summer, on the other hand, was one of the best things I’ve ever done. Soccer’s so much more active, and the people it attracts are so much more interesting.

@Owlehn, XC ftw! (:

^YEAH!
XC is ridiculously amazing. Nobody else understands the bonds formed through running. :P

ninja, are you being recruited for gymnastics? DO they recruit for gymnastics?

^^ Haha, ohhh so true! Seriously infuriating when people claim that it’s not a sport. xP
Wherever I end up next year, I’m definitely joining some sort of a running club. (:

quomodo: I’m not being recruited, but I’m pretty sure they do, it’s just REALLY limited. I wish. I’ve talked to the coach and I would technically be a walk-on I guess, even though there’s not much of a difference without scholarships.

^I would definitely say running is a sport! That surprises me that someone would say it isn’t. As a gymnast I’ve heard the “cheerleading is not a sport” argument quite enough, but I’ll back y’all up for cross country. That’s serious stuff right there.

What? How can people not think that cross country is a sport? They must be mentally deficient.

I get so angry when people claim horseback riding’s not a sport! It’s not just being carried around - it’s unbelievably demanding, both mentally and physically (as I’m sure gymnastics and cheerleading must be - they’re all similar in that they require strength as well as flexibility, timing, focus, balance, etc.). not to mention your life is perched atop a one-thousand pound beast with skittish tendencies and a mind of its own.
sorry - long rant.

On the topic of sports, I definitely think horseback riding and gymnastics are a sport. I would love to participate in intramurals at Yale!! Even though I have the unfortunate combination of being unathletic + extremely competitive. =)

Does Yale have ballet classes for the late beginner to intermediate dancer? I’m no professional, but I have always really enjoyed ballet and was pretty serious about it in middle school.

^Yes, there are beginner/intermediate ballet classes offered at Payne Whitney Gym. I think you’ll have to pay a fee, however.

^Awesome. Thanks!!
I am very, very excited for college, whether it is Yale or someplace else.
