<p>My son’s Scholars bowl team is going to the Yale tournament in early March. Any advice about a good place to stay and great places to eat?</p>
<p>There is a holiday inn or the fairfield inn by Long Warf near a huge Ikea( free continental breakfast!!ha). Those are the only two I can think of, there is probably much more.</p>
<p>There’s a Marriott Courtyard not far from the Co-op.</p>
<p>We’ll have cars to get to the competition, but last year we stayed out of town and kinda got lost. We made it though. I was thinking if there’s a good place close by that would be nice, either with breakfast in house or close by. And I thought maybe there were some good pizza places to have lunch or dinner??</p>
<p>Sally’s and Pepe’s for pizza. If they’re still there; I think I saw Pepe’s. In fact, I’m not sure the Co-op is still there (I thought I read it might be a B&N now), but I know there’s a Courtyard not far from downtown (passed it in September). Not up-to-date on better restaurants, etc.</p>

<p>Get a burger at Louis Lunch. It’s an experience (and cheap).

Second the rec for Sallys or Pepes. There is also a great lunch place called Claire’s right near the Yale campus.</p>
<p>Try the Yale 2009 or 2010 board. The kids probably know the best pizza places…and their parents have, at one time or another, probably stayed near the campus!</p>
<p>Courtyard by Marriott (formerly the Holiday Inn), the Colony Inn and the Omni are the hotels closest to campus. Agree with those who say Louis’ Lunch, Sally’s and Pepe’s are great.</p>
<p>Can anyone terll me what the neghborhoods are like near the campus? Is it better to be outside of town for some reason?</p>
<p>If you want the “college town” experience, stay at one of the hotels listed by AA. There is also the New Haven Hotel. Those 4 keep you within walking distance of the Yale campus and the attendant stores and restaurants.</p>
<p>There are any number of hotels out along US-1, I-95 and I-91, but you have to drive to get to the Yale Campus.</p>

<p>We stayed at the New Haven Hotel when we visited … a nice, older, non-chain hotel with a lovely pool, as I recall.</p>
<p>Restaurants: Pepe’s definitely! We go there at least once a year, still the best pizza in existence (and the longest wait for it, too). And for dessert, go to the pastry shop next door. If you are a vegetarian (or not), try Claire’s Cornercopia on the corner of the Green across from Vanderbilt Hall. Fancy: I ate at Zinc (I think that’s the name) a couple years ago, and it was very good.</p>
<p>Hotels: I don’t remember what the hotel on Whalley is called now, but don’t stay at Long Wharf if you can avoid it. That’s miles and miles away.</p>
<p>Three years ago D and I stayed at a place called I think just the New Haven Hotel or Hotel New Haven. Not new, not fancy, but absolutely wonderful service and kind of old-fashioned East Coasty which was a novelty to D.</p>

<p>The Marriott is great. We’ve stayed there twice and had very good experiences both times. I second Pepe’s for pizza, although I understand that Modern is now considered the best (but we haven’t been there to sample it yet.) Louis’ Lunch is…interesting. A small and quirky place, very good beef, but no ketchup allowed on the premises. And the burger could have used some ketchup. :)</p>

<p>The New Haven Hotel was already full for the date. I’m not sure our geeky Scholars Bowl team would notice character with a capital c. I’ll bring along a list of the restaurants.</p>
