Yale "Additional Essays"

“You have already told us about yourself in the Common Application, with its list of activities, Short Answer, and Personal Essay. In this required second essay, tell us something that you would like us to know about you that we might not get from the rest of your application - or something that you would like a chance to say more about. Please limit your essay to fewer than 500 words.”

Based on the above prompt, which is part of Yale’s supplement, should I:

a) take this opportunity to explain my low GPA (special circumstances)
b) take this opportunity to share some unique, interesting tidbit.

Option A sounds whiny, but this could be my only opportunity to redeem myself :)

Option A is better explained by your GC in their evaluation, leaving you to write something interesting about yourself.

Another thought, if your GC won’t/can’t do it, you could put a brief explanation in the Additional Information section of the CA. It would really be beneficial if you could use the supplemental essay to describe something about yourself other than your grades.

Good luck!
