I’m a Yale applicant and heard that some people got their regular decisions early by phone (all of which were acceptance decisions). Does anyone know more on the topic from past years or personal experience?
Yale telephoned recipients of Likely Letters. They were not formal offers of acceptance.

Most accepted students never receive LLs so you shouldn’t concern yourself one second.

The only case I know of where an official notification of RD acceptance is by phone is the case of West Point and Annapolis, where you get a phone call from your congressman.
Waiting list notifications of acceptance are another matter and because of the tight timeframes involved are often by phone.
