So, the deal is I went to college without graduating and I never got a HSE (high school equivalency) or diploma in between.
Now, I’m trying to transfer.
Luckily, most schools don’t require either credentials for transferring. However, Yale says it wants a GED or high school diploma. I don’t have these and specifically put I didn’t graduate high school on my Common App so why am I still even allowed to put Yale as an option on my dashboard? Will this just mean that after I send in everything Yale will take me out firsthand since I don’t have these things?
Most likely, yes – your application will be considered incomplete without your HS diploma or GED, so if submitted, it WILL NOT be read or considered. But I would call Yale Admissions, ask to speak with an Admissions Officer (sometimes the people who answer the phones are students), to confirm.
Every school is different, and times are different also, but I attended college, graduated, and attended graduate school without a HSE. I can’t imagine it’s a big deal Good luck;do as gibby suggests.
FWIW: I know someone who was admitted to Yale Drama School (back in the 80’s) even though he had not completed his undergraduate studies. When he graduated Yale Drama he was given a “certificate of completion” attesting to the fact that he had completed all the course work for a masters, but the university could not issue a graduate diploma until he had submitted proof of an undergraduate degree. So, this may be a long term institutional policy by the Yale Corporation. But do call Admissions to confirm.
I don’t think Yale requires a high school diploma or HSE for admission to the college as a freshman, Or at least it didn’t in the past. Maybe that’s a separate requirement for transfers?
Who is Eligible to Transfer?
To be eligible to transfer, you must have a high school diploma or GED by June of the current academic year, and at least one year and no more than two years of transferable post-secondary-school college credit.*
